Woman Unable To Close Eyes Now Suing N.J. Plastic Surgeon

PATERSON, N.J. (CBSNewYork) — A jury has started deliberating the case of a woman who says she can’t close her eyes, even when she sleeps.

She’s blaming an eyelid procedure gone badly, reports CBS 2’s Christine Sloan.

Marilyn Leisz showed Sloan her dilemma.

“That’s how it is when I sleep. That’s how it is 24-7, 365 days a year,” Leisz said.

Leisz said she went to a Bergen County plastic surgeon to correct bumps on her eyelids from a cosmetic procedure performed by another doctor — and now she can’t fully close her eyes.

“I can close my eyes like this, but to blink I really have to really squeeze my eyes to … fully close my eyes,” Leisz said.

The married mother of two from Bloomingdale was in court Tuesday suing Dr. Paul Parker for negligence. During a break, Sloan asked Dr. Parker and his attorney for comment. They both declined.

But in court, his attorney told the jury Leisz was warned of the risks and that she never complained after the 2005 eyelid surgery called a blepharoplasty.

“This patient was given information about those risks,” the attorney said.

Leisz disagrees. Her attorney played the opinion of another doctor who said she wasn’t a good candidate for this surgery because she had had too many other procedures.

“He should have been honest with me and told me I was not a candidate and suggested other options for me,” Leisz said.

Leisz said she has to use gel at night and a vaporizer so she doesn’t scratch her eyes. She also says she’s losing her vision and lives in fear of injuring her eyes.

“All the favorite things I used to, like tennis, racquetball, swimming, horseback riding, bike riding, skeet shooting, gardening, I can’t do those things,” Leisz said.

Leisz admitted to having multiple other procedures before going to Dr. Parker, but said she may be able to correct the problem but she’s afraid to go under the knife.

Leisz is asking the jury, which started deliberations, for an unspecified amount of money. The will be back in court Wednesday.

Vanity, I suppose. Maybe the people that go under the knife over and over again are simply unable to cope with the fact they are getting older. I don’t know what kind of mirrors they own, ‘cause they don’t look better with plastic surgery(reconstructive surgeries notwithstanding), they just look like they’ve had work done.

It's funny, but I never saw a nun strike a child in the classroom. Our nuns were much more “Lillies of the Field” than the coarse caricatures I see in the atheist media. I qualified it by “in the classroom” because our Principal and Mother Superior could cuff you in a minute if you “disrespected” her. Much less the BVM or her Son.

Personally, I think kids these days could use a little cuffing. My granny used to tell me she’d “mash my mouth” if I did thus and so. She meant it. It is possible to have one’s mouth “mashed.”

Even when it?s done correctly, it never looks that good and the risks of something going wrong just seem too high.

Rosanne went from butt-ugly fat woman to fat woman. Gretta Van Sustren went from very plain and unfit for TV to kinda cute.

Yes, because “mash” is a transitive verb. A very transitive verb. You cannot have a masher unless you have a mashee.

Geez! You’re right. She’s 23 years younger than he is, 45 years old now, but I thought she was in her 50s. Maybe it’s all the makeup.
