Vanity rant/question

I went to breakfast this morning at Eat 'N Park in PIttsburgh. When I pulled into the parking lot, the spaces next to the handicapped spots were open so I thought, "Sweet! I"m gonna get a rock star parking spot" but as I pulled in, I noticed a sign posted in this spot that said "Reserved for Those Driving Hybrid Vehicles". I was PISSED! Has anyone else noticed this? Is it a new trend? Am I that out of the loop?

“Unless its a city or state ordinance. F@#k em.”

Very possibly, the property owner can designate spaces for whomever he so decides.

Personally, I think all lots should have a place reserved for FReepers.

In California you can be fined up to $4200 for illegally using a placard. That includes the “registered owner” for lending it out. It’s easy for police to check too because you have carry you placard identification card/receipt with you just like you would your driver’s license.

Besides the placard ID card there’s a registration # on the placard that I’m sure they can look up just as easily as a driver’s license # to see who it’s registered to.

At which point the only possibility would be towing.

At that point it becomes a civil suit where the business CANNOT win.

Imagine a local grocery store doing this. Sure maybe they can handle a lawsuit or two. BUT....imagine 3,4 maybe 5 individual lawsuits, one right after another. Pretty expensive parking spots at the cost of 5 lawsuits, just to be "cool" and trendy. Not to mention the lost revenue, as the lawsuits over parking spots would obviously make the papers.

I think more people are irritated with all this eco friendly pc crap, than are into thinking its hip and cool.

When I was his age, I had a freaking ‘63 Ford Fairlane
-pedal- car.

No “drifting”, no burning rubber, no remote control anything.

Just sheet metal and -pedals-!

A couple years later, I got an “X-15” for my birthday.

[a glorified metal Big Wheel with extremely squirrely and dangerous joystick steering that was supposed to resemble a jet fighter or some such thing]

Kids have such better toys now.....:(

[I miss my Jungle Gym]

LOL

I would have parked there anyway. When asked to move I’d say my car ran on an Oxygen/Fuel hybrid.

People dumb enough to put the sign there wouldn’t have known the difference.

You’re not missing anything. In fact, you’re correct. They have a right to put what ever BS sign they want & I have a right to eat elsewhere. My point was just how ridiculous is this & what kind of dumbass business move?? It was more just my ranting about it; I’m not advocating that anyone shut them up or take away their private property rights.

I saw your observation on our Hybrid parking spaces. Our Waterworks restaurant in Fox Chapel has two spaces reserved for energy efficient vehicles. That is the only restaurant where we plan to have these spots. The spaces are actually around the side of the building. We have handicapped spaces reserved closer to the entrance door. We have these spaces at this particular restaurant because this is our “green” restaurant. The restaurant was designed to meet LEED Gold standards for energy efficient building design. Part of designing a building for those specifications is not only to build energy efficient technology inside the building but also to encourage green practices within the community. In the case of this restaurant, those elements include the two hybrid parking spaces, bike racks and walking paths to the nearest bus stop. Where you see hybrid parking spaces reserved, it is likely related to a building that is trying to meet LEED building standards. In addition to these elements, we have numerous energy and water saving technologies throughout the building, including a large wind turbine which generates electricity. This restaurant uses significantly less electricity and water than a typical restaurant.

There are very few restaurants in the country that have met the Gold level for LEED building, and it was a goal we set for ourselves. I hope that helps explain the thought behind the building.

Sincerely,
Kevin O’Connell
Eat’n Park

First off, thank you for taking the time to sign up and respond in person. Not many companies are interested in customer service enough to respond to comments on a internet forum.

Second, congratulations on Gold LEED certification. It is a major accomplishment. We looked at LEED certification for the building I manage and realized it is a huge expense, takes an excessive amount of man hours to complete and has very little to do with actual energy savings. In fact, LEED is mostly based on the phoney global warming / CO2-is-pollution science that most rational scientists are running from as fast as they can.

However, they do give you a certificate and let you use their logo on your advertising, so it makes people feel good. I guess that's worth something. Congratulations once again and if I'm ever in town and driving a coal burning electric car I'll stop by for a sandwich.

P.S. Do you have an Energy Star?

Yeah...I could only drive it around the basement....lots of hot 4 year olds down there....:))

[mine was that icky silver/blue color that's so "popular"]

I did actually find the X-15...$300! on Craig's list

Boy...wish I stil had it...I could use the money....;]

Oh well.

I had a pony and dad had a '63 Fairlane convertible so it wasn't ~so~ miserable.

I always wanted a wagon but for whatever reason, never got one.

I would have gone to breakfast at a more acceptable restaurant. And maybe dumped a quart of used oil in their parking space if I could have found one.

Well that explains why my breakfast at ENP that used to be $7 is now pushing $10.

I respect ENP’s right to build the building they want & I’m all for reducing energy consumption, but I’m saddened that 1. ENP has bought into the global warming myth, 2. that ENP is naiive enough to think hybrid vehicles are actually good for the environment (when in fact their production is much more harmful), and 3. ENP’s insinuation that those customers drinig hybrid vehicles are somehow more deserving than others. What a crock.

Commies think it is okay to discriminate against anyone on ‘political’ grounds so long as it is NOT because they are members of the Communist Party.

The sign is legal, there is nothing in “discrimination codes” that prohibit this form of discrimination. Same as when businesses AND employers had a “No Bush Voter” policy to denying hotel rooms and employment to Bush Voters in 2004.

Political correctness is thought control. It does NOT celebrate diversity.
