In Action Comics #900, a back up strip by David Goyer, showed Superman announcing he was to go to the UN and give up his citizenship of the USA, so to ensure his actions were not mistaken for US government policy.
And the news exploded.
Well, today, from DC Comics, on the last page of Superman #711, we see a very different situation. Superman loving America after all! That (thankfully) doesn’t spoil the story having on its own right here.
And to quote; “That’s what America is about, really. That’s the American way. Life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness – and second chances. None of us are forced to be anything we don’t want to be. When I was young I knew that I would be someone different when I grew up. I would leave home and make a new life for myself. A new start, a second chance. When I first went to Metropolis, it was full of people who’d done the same thing. People from all over America – from over the world - who went to the city to live the lives they wanted – to be the people they wanted to be. That’s the idea that America was founded on, but it’s not just for the people born here, it’s for everyone. And it’s for people like me and Livewire too.” – Superman.
As to whether or not he still has US citizenship, that’s a story for another day. Or not. Until then why not catch up on Captain America fighting WikiLeaks with his fists, or Wonder Woman killing all of the men in Britain, possibly by removing their testicles. What a world, what a world.

I never thought his announced intent to renounce his USA citizenship was “unpatriotic,” as explained in context: He was tired of his actions, such as his joining peaceful protesters in Iran, as necessarily being dictated by the US government. In other words, he didn’t want the USA to be blamed for anything and everything he did.
Still, seemed a BIT of an overreaction on Supes’s part, so I am glad he thought better of the “announced intent.”

Is this the Superhero who was born on Krypton, but some think he was born in Hawaii, then was abandoned by his mom, lived with his grandparents, left the country when his mom remarried, lost his citizenship, then got dumped back to Hawaii, changed his name a few times, and then became President?
So ... Superman is gay now?
It's too bad you didn't keep a few copies of Action Comics #1...if they were still in decent shape you could trade them for a nice Caribbean island!

In a nutshell!
2 different series, 2 different writers. The irony is that the line in this issue was written possibly at the same time as the line in the other story, unbeknownst to the other writer.
Since I haven’t picked up a Comic Book since I was about 12, I had no idea there are different “universes” where different writers/illustrators depict the characters differently.
Oh well.
Two different comic books ... Superman #711 and Action Comics #900. Superman apparently appears in several simultaneously running titles. Same with Batman (Batman, Detective Comics, etc.)

Actually, I was reading about that during the whole citizenship hullaballoo.
I think they rebooted the Superman comics in the mid-1980s. In the reboot, the Kryptonian space ship technically delivered a suspended-animation/gestating fetus that was born to the Kents in Smallville, Kansas.
He’d be a citizen by birth. Anchor baby.

They could’ve easily and quickly drawn a new ending to this story given the outcry over the last one. That would be my guess ... they were probably caught by surprise over the outrage to that one-shot side story. So, they fixed it.

Not enough time would have passed, these books go to the printers weeks before they hit the stands. It’s just synchronicity.
