Ashton Kutcher replaces Charlie Sheen on 'Two and a Half Men'

It's official: Ashton Kutcher is filling the gap left by Charlie Sheen on "Two and a Half Men."

"I can't wait to get to work with this ridiculously talented 2.5 team and I believe we can fill the stage with laughter that will echo in viewers' homes," Kutcher said Friday in a statement released by CBS and Warner Bros. Television.

"I can't replace Charlie Sheen but I'm going to work my ass off to entertain the hell out of people!"

Kutcher, who gained his early fame on a TV sitcom, "That 70s Show," has more recently been seen on the big screen. His last film was "No Strings Attached," which hit theaters in January.

He's also made his mark as a TV executive producer, most notably for MTV's hidden-camera show "Punk'd."

"Ashton is a pop culture triple threat -- film star, cutting-edge producer and a social media pioneer," said Nina Tassler, the head of CBS Entertainment. "He brings creativity, energy and personality to everything he touches. We are thrilled to have him."

CBS and Warner Bros. did not disclose how much Kutcher will earn. Sheen, who is embroiled in a lawsuit over his sudden dismissal from the show in March, was earning a reported $2 million for each episode.

Sheen responded to the news by praising Kutcher while taking a shot at the show's executive producer, Chuck Lorre.

"Ashton Kutcher is a sweetheart and a brilliant comedic performer. Oh wait, so am I!!," Sheen said in a written statement. "Enjoy the show America. Enjoy seeing 2.0 in the demo every Monday, WB. Enjoy planet Chuck, Ashton. There is no air, laughter, loyalty, or love there."

Would have been real funny if they brought in Ted McGinley.

"Ace" Harper, their long-lost brother.

Dick York, Dick Sargent, Sergeant York... coincidence, I don’t think so.

Here's a little-known fact for ya, Sammy:

Dick Sargent (Darrin # 2) was originally offered the role of Darrin when they were first casting the show. He could not do it, however, due to other acting commitments he had at the time, so the role went to Dick York. When York's deteriorating health prevented him from continuing with the show, they went back to their original choice, Dick Sargent.

A very appropriate name for him.

My guess is that they'll kill off Charlie or put him in rehab (extended) and that Kutcher is the caretaker or beneficiary (multiple backstories here on how this came to be). Another option is Charlie is dead, Alan gets the house and takes on a boarder or is forced to (BIL for a girlfriend etc.)

Come to think of it, the writers are a bunch of lazy asses...they're probably waiting for us to come up with something neat.

That’s actually not such a bad idea. Everyone knows the show is a total mess and on borrowed time now, they might as well have fun with it and bring in ol’ Ted for a cameo.

It will be as lame as Sanford and Son, when they had Grady stand in for Fred, while Redd Foxx was in a contract dispute.

I wonder how much his “old” lady paid to get him the part?

Take a look at Demi Moore's last five years of work compared to Boytoy's. It's pretty clear he's the one bringing home the bacon. She hasn't had a lead role in a major movie since G.I Jane in 1997.

My guess is that they’ll have Charlie enter the Witness Protection Program after he sleeps with some mobster’s wife. Ashton Kutcher will show up as a “cousin” - similar to “Three’s Company”. when Suzanne Somers’s character “Chrissy” was replaced by her cousin “Cindy” (Jenilee Harrison) when Somers left the show after a contract dispute. It doesn’t matter....this isn’t going to work anyway.

I think it WILL work. Time will tell. It depends on how the rest of the crew looks upon Ashton.
