For all you "Lord of the Rings" fans out there, a quick peak at Peter Jackson's "The Hobbit", with Martin Freeman as Bilbo Baggins, Ian McKellan as Gandalf. Looks like it's in production after being in develpoment hell. We'll have to wait until next year, but for me at least, it's worth the wait. Looking forward to it.

I was trying to figure out who Martin Freeman was...then I looked him up on Wikipedia. He did a great job in his portrayal of Dr. Watson in those new Sherlock Holmes series. I think that’s the only thing I’ve seen him in.

The next James Bond movie comes out next year too. Can’t wait for them both.

I thought he did a great job as Doctor Watson as well. I’m looking forward to the release of The Hobbit.

I always thought he should have made this movie first and then the Trilogy. But then again, I also always thought that you couldn’t really understand the whole epic without reading “the Hobbit” first!

Absolutely! Just what I was thinking, this is the prequel to the trilogy.

Leonard Nimoy did ‘sing’ “The Ballad of Bilbo Baggins” you know.

Actually, they should have started with the Silmarillion and worked there way from there

He did a good job as Arthur Dent in a very uneven film version of Hitchhikers' Guide to the Galaxy. Should be equally good as the reluctant "professional thief" Gandalf insists the dwarves need for their excursion to relieve Smaug, the dragon, of his hoarded gold. Of course, he does "by accident" pick up a handy little ring in Gollum's cave along the way. Tolkien wrote the book to be read aloud to his own children so it's very different in tone from the later LOTR. Much more whimsical.

Hopefully Jackson will be FAR truer to the source material than he was in the Lord of the Rings movies.

I found the Silmarillion unreadable.
