Check out what real scholars say about the Mayan calendar. It isn't an 'end of the world' prediction, it is simply rolling over in a period like December 31-Jan 1 starts a new year. All Dec 21st is when we start over in the constellations.

Here's a summary of what he's said is the next big thing to watch for:

On or about July 7th, this ELE comet/brown dwarf/whatever is going to align (somewhat) with Saturn. A ‘sign’ will be given as ELE affects Saturn in some way. What it is, he hasn't said.
But...in order to distract us, forces working inside the government are planning to blow up or collapse a series of dams on or about July 7th that will send a massive amount of water down the Missouri & Mississippi river valleys, essentially cutting the country in half. The devastation will be so immense that martial law will be declared...a small area at first, then expanding as the ‘threat’ expands.

This is to set up for the big events to come.

First, as ELE approaches, it will set off the New Madrid fault, which will cause the entire Midwest from the bottom of Lake Michigan all the way to the Gulf of Mexico to liquefy and slide into the Gulf. this will make a physical water barrier, cutting the country in half. This will also set off faults all up and down the Eastern Seaboard, making nuclear power plants melt down and rendering the area from Maine to the Appalachian Chain uninhabitable. The oly safe place to be is in caverns in the Ozarks with water, food, and weapons (which of course is where the author plans to be at that time).
Even though the central Midwest area is geologically safe, FEMA will be herding people in the area into death camps for extermination. The West coast is also a write-off, as the Cascadia and San Andreas faults will let go, not to mention the possibility of the Yellowstone Caldera coming to life.

Then-the big one. On September 26th (which happens to be my birthday, gee...what a present), ELE will cross the orbital plane between Earth and the Sun. The massive gravitational pull of the brown star will attempt to gather Earth into it's own influence. This will cause the geographic North Pole to literally shift away from the Sun. This will plunge the Northern Hemisphere into perpetual darkness for 2 weeks or more. This will also cause the Southern Hemisphere to be in near constant daylight, where they will be bombarded with massive solar storms caused by ELE’s passing and disruption of the solar magnetosphere. As ELE moves away, the North Pole will re-align and return to near where it was.

The upshot of all of this is that billions worldwide will die, only those who are prepared for one-year’s worth of self-sufficiency will have any chance at all to survive, and that what is left after all this has passed will be the ‘elite’ trying to enslave all free men.
