This "silk purse" economy that 0bama has created could improve even with damage bestowed upon it.

Democrats ALWAYS accuse others of the things they are doing themselves.

LOL, if the GOP wanted to damage the economy, all they'd have to do is give Zer0 everything he wants.

Unemployed (real number) around 20%.
Families living paycheck to paycheck.
A Federal debt up $4.7 Trillion in under three years.
Nationalization of much of the auto industry, banks and a major insurance company.

And now, an argument that Republicans want to hurt the economy to make Obama look bad???

Absolute insanity.

As bad as some claimed the US economy was in 2008-2009, a logical realization to even those who supported Obama has to be that the economy would be significantly better now had President Bush and President Obama not taken any actions in the economy. No TARP, no QE1, QE2 or stimulus. Yet, we're supposed to support another $2.5 Trillion increase in the debt ceiling?

That total debt ($17 Trillion) equals roughly $56,000 for every man, women and child living in this Country, not taking into account interest. Where will this money come from to pay this debt plus interest back?

We're witnessing in real time how Socialism is a failure.

Fact of the matter is, that if the debt ceiling is not raised then we will probably have economic problems. There is nobody who would doubt that, and im personally getting sick of this politicking, when it is beginning to mess with my finances. No one really knows the outcome of not raising the debt ceiling, but odds are it wont be good. Alot of the market is based on speculation and investor confidence. Defaulting is not very good for confidence. Ive gone past the point of caring about the future and just want the immediate present secure before resuming discussions on the future.

Please flame me for being sane.

To be quite frank, I dont care about other peoples grandkids, I care about me and my own, and I know they will be secure. I dont need government handouts or social security to guarantee my wellfare because I and my parents before me didnt spend like morons to live beyond their means like the rest of the country. They were true conservatives, and theyre sitting pretty now while the average american is in debt.
Forgive me if im not enthusiastic at the prospect of the dollar being devaluated so we can make our debt shrink. Not only will the debt decrease but the value of what I own will aswell.

Refusing to raise the debt ceiling does not force the nation into default.

The federal government would have plenty of money to pay its debt obligations if it cut spending on some other things.

As a former insider in a state bureaucracy for 30 years I can assure you that there are at least twice as many employees as needed to meet assigned tasks. If we also were to eliminate unnecessary tasks we could reduce the bureaucracy by two-thirds.

On top of this there are outlays for hopelessly inefficient and wasteful programs that could be cut. For example, all of the passenger rail schemes and subsidies that have ballooned over the last two decades.

Well .. they’ll have to go some to beat Sheila Jackson Lee’s rant about Obama being the “only” one who is being vilified.

Hmmmm ..?? I guess she forgot all her awful statements about GW.
