(Reuters) - U.S. law-enforcement agencies are increasingly obtaining warrants to search Facebook, often gaining detailed access to users' accounts without their knowledge.

A Reuters review of the Westlaw legal database shows that since 2008, federal judges have authorized at least two dozen warrants to search individuals' Facebook accounts. Many of the warrants requested a laundry list of personal data such as messages, status updates, links to videos and photographs, calendars of future and past events, "Wall postings" and "rejected Friend requests."

Federal agencies seeking the warrants include the FBI, DEA and ICE, and the investigations range from arson to rape to terrorism.

You can imagine the intellect of some individuals who participate in flash mobs and then post it on Facebook.

I bet they don’t understand that when they delete information online, it still exists in the caches of various servers especially Google’s.

I have a facebook page.

I only accept family or friends who I know, and stay away from friend whores - you know, people who you barely new (and some you didn’t like) who just want to up their friend counts for “status”. ...or old flames!.

Second, I don’t put ANYTHING on my wall. e.g. “went to Guns Galore today bought another AK47 and 15 more high capacity clips, also boobie trapped home”.

Facebook has brought me together with some lost friends and band mates I never thought I would here from again and it reminds me of peoples birthdays and I get to see how others are doing, good bad or indifferent. So from that aspect FB provides value.

The fact that sh_thead Wallberg has sided with communists pisses me off.

Anyway, regrards.

I don’t know why anyone would put personal information online. It never disappears and it can be altered. I don’t bank online either, and everyone will be whining when, not if, it all gets hacked and erased.

You betcha.

For the record, as I’ve repeated several times, all my firearms were lost in a tragic boating accident. Just dang.

what if you dont use your actual name in facebook?

Your ISP will have logs of what IP address you were using at any particular time.

You think facebook logs won't contain the IP address of where a page owner posted from? Or knowing a person's IP address, the FaceBook people can't give law enforcement all your activity?

We have a graffiti problem in the (nice) area of town that I live. The police typed in the tagger’s handle on facebook, and voila found pics of his “work” all over town. The perp got a nice fine and has to pay for cleanup of the vandalism.
