LNG tank valve won't release gas. Help.
7/24/2011 | self

Posted on 07/24/2011 3:23:13 PM PDT by VA Voter

I filled a 20lb LNG tank this afternoon and now with the valve open it won't release the gas. BBQ ruined.

The guy where I got the gas says the valve is stuck or broken closed inside.

Is there anything I can do?

One of mine did that once.

I had had it filled, connected it to my grill, and I can’t remember why, but I had to disconnect/reconnect it and after that it wouldn’t work.

Took it to get it refilled, connected it again and it worked fine.

My children still salivate any time a smoke alarm goes off.

I had them convinced for years that it was dad’s dinner bell...

Nuke the site from orbit.

It’s the only way to be sure.

Take the tank to a wide open field, remove yourself from it by at least a quarter mile, aim at it with a 30-06, gently squeeze trigger and enjoy.

Not that it will help you now, but it would be a good idea in the future to have a spare tank handy. I’ve had tanks with bad valves in the past and there’s not much you can do with them at a time like this. I’ve also found that instead of getting your own tank refilled, you use one of those services (available at places like Home Depot or Lowes) where you simply exchange your empty tank for one that’s already been refilled. These companies (like Blue Rhino) will replace faulty valves on tanks turned into them. I haven’t had any problems of this sort since I made the switch.

The regulator on my grill likes to stick. I rap on it a few times, and back in business!

May not be your tank. Could be regulator.

Turn everthing off and unhook your tank.

Reattach hose fitting to tank.

Turn on valves on grill, does it work?

If no? Turn the grill valves back off, and gently (gently) tap on the side of the tank valve.

Good luck.

I went through a long process with that problem earlier this year. I concluded it was the STUPID fittings used on grills. There are two types, one with a black plastic ring that screws over the outlet of the tank, the other (all metal) screws inside of the tank. The one with the ring is newer and it caused me the problems, and I’M SURE it was what you used. The black plastic design has an extra valve in it...as mentioned by others.

Anyway, it took some effort, but I converted all of my propane appliances to the inside design and so far, so good. I have no idea why they messed up a perfectly good system.
