Krugman in the NYT on Obama: "What a Disaster".
NYT ^ | July 24 2011 | Paul Krugman

July 24, 2011, 10:11 AM President Pushover Updated: Drew article now available.

The redoubtable Elizabeth Drew has a forthcoming article in the New York Review of Books — not yet online — that confirms all our worst fears. She tells us that past concessions have

established in both Democrats’ and Republicans’ minds the thought that Obama was a weak negotiator—a “pushover.” He was more widely seen among Democrats and other close observers as having a strategy of starting near where he thinks the Republicans are—at the fifty-yard line—and then moving closer to their position. Even more alarming, however, is her window on what the White House is thinking:

It all goes back to the “shellacking” Obama took in the 2010 elections. The President’s political advisers studied the numbers and concluded that the voters wanted the government to spend less. This was an arguable interpretation. Nevertheless, the political advisers believed that elections are decided by middle-of-the-road independent voters, and this group became the target for determining the policies of the next two years.

OK, I’ve never won a tough election. But neither has Obama! The 2008 race was looking close until Sarah Palin and Lehman came along. And as far as I can tell, this assessment both of what 2010 was about and what matters for 2012 is just ludicrous.

Normally just spend my time absorbing comments from everyone here but this time I did read some of them. Stopped at the one which called BO a rightwinger. Calling their comments priceless is grossly understated.

I personally think that Senator Charles Schumer — is going to realize that Obama’s actions will even take down the awesomely powerful Goldman Sachs and he could force Obama’s hand on this.

If Obama loses the confidence of the major players who put him in the White House, he's gone. He's already lost a lot of support among the faithful Borg. The heavies are probably also wavering right now.

Obama may still be feeling omnipotent, but if his own party begins to turn on him, he'll quickly figure out just what a figurehead he really is.

Soros wants someone new.

He was quoted as saying that "if Obama can't get our agenda implemented, we'll just have to find someone who can."

I seem to recall that was about eight months ago.

Bernie Sanders:
"Brian, believe me, I wish I had the answer to your question. Let me just suggest this. I think there are millions of Americans who are deeply disappointed in the president; who believe that, with regard to Social Security and a number of other issues, he said one thing as a candidate and is doing something very much else as a president; who cannot believe how weak he has been, for whatever reason, in negotiating with Republicans and there’s deep disappointment.

So my suggestion is, I think one of the reasons the president has been able to move so far to the right is that there is no primary opposition to him and I think it would do this country a good deal of service if people started thinking about candidates out there to begin contrasting what is a progressive agenda as opposed to what Obama is doing."

Guys like Bernie Sanders want a full-throated Marxist in the White House. Someone who will come right out and say that they want to abolish the US Constitution, and supplant it with a totalitarian, Communist government.

Sanders and his ilk are upset that Obama hasn't taken us further toward their Socialist Utopia than he already has. They're not at all worried that they might lose power in Congress and the White House because he's veered too far left.

If he thinks the way to success is in forcing Obama even harder left, he hasn't been paying attention to the polls and the most recent elections.

And the answer comes back..."Hillary"!

Sure, but only the looney tunes out there would give you that answer. Hillary's day has come and gone.

I have been watching DU. Complete meltdown.

It's not much better here with "boner caves" and all that sky-is-falling nonsense.

Relapse of his coke addiction?

He'd never admit to that, but it could happen. Hell, his base would forgive him even if he did admit it.

I have looked there for years. I have never seen such mass meltdown.

Damn, those are heart-warming words.

>> McCain didn’t have a prayer, until Sarah Palin showed up.

It wouldn’t kill the Left to admit that, but it’s contempt hinders still the simplest of truths.

They’re starting to eat their own.

Just maintain pressure for a few months more, and many will start to implode.

Be prepared for desperate measures, including a domestic Reichstag Fire incident to give Barry an excuse to impose "emergency suspensions of the Constitution".

It's time to implement that three-point economic recovery plan I've mentioned several times on FR and REALLY get the economy going again.

Ray....how about reposting it for all the new folks and those that didn't read it the couple of times it has graced these posts. It is well worth it.

Thanks again!
