My dad flew the RAF Mustangs Mark III and IV, corresponding to the P-51 C & D, as well as the Hurricane and Spitfire. Loved loved loved the Merlin engine.

Coworker’s dad, long deceased, flew P-47s and P-51s in WWII, said the P-51 was much smoother and less-fatiguing to fly, but when there was killing that needed done, he’d rather be flying the Jug.
