Are any other FReepers attending the Burning Man festival next week?

I'm going with some other patriots to explore and spread our Founding Fathers' message of true freedom through limited government. We haven't named our camp yet since this is the first year.

I'd love to hear your advice too. Freepmail me if you are interested in joining forces out there.

Isn’t burning man a hippie infested drug and sex playground?

My honest advice is to be very careful which part of your “man” gets burned.

I have followed BM since..well lets just say a LONG time ago. It's been one of my ambitions to go. I know...most of the people there are not of the same political persuasion as me but I like the creativity, the artists and the coolness.

I am positive that even at our age Mrs p6 and I would fit in and have a great time.

Wish we could go. We're in Pittsburgh and pretty much tied down with grandkids and other commitments but one of these years!

Hope you have a great time...PLEASE POST PICS and links of you can!

It is an end of summer tradition...

We’re having our own version of Burning Man here in Texas this week. You just go stand out on the asphalt for a a few minutes.

If you want it to be. I don’t do drugs, and when I went in the mid-2000s, I found it to be about art, community, and individual expression.

I had fun just looking at all of the work that people put into their artwork, and a blast getting to know people from all over the country without the distractions of TV, radio, or newspapers.

Don’t be surprised when you meet people who claim to seek freedom but want to achieve it by being slaves.

You've probably seen this documentary, but I was actually at BM the year this was filmed. I highly recommend it to anyone who wants to know what BM is really all about.

Teach them about capitalism by setting up a stand selling soap and deodorant. As I’ve always said, find a niche and fill it. You may have to include some instructional materials with it.

The Freemont Fair in Seattle, is a bit like BM, but more family oriented; the cultural performances are outstanding [if you stay away from the nude cyclists parade], as is the food.

Actually many at BM are open minded about things. More so than the mainstream left.

Gonna be hotter than hell next week on the playa. Bring more water than you think you need. Also the store at Empire was closed last I heard so buy everything you need in Reno or Fernly. Bring LOTS of sun block and at least 50% more water than you think you will need.

Remember, wash with soap and water, urinate then go ahead and schedule an appointment with your doctor.

I went the last two years. It is not as much of a hippy event as you would think.

I love some of the art displays out in the deep playa, also the art cars are my favorite, and you can sit in your camp and watch them come by.

Recommendations: I like those blue surgical masks, take a box of those with you. I get a box of 50 at Harbor Freight for about $6. Carry extras in your pocket to give to other people who get caught out in a dust storm.

Keep you feet well covered. The dust/sand there is very basic and is nasty on your feet.

Take a lot of differnt kinds of food. I never know what I will be hungry for out there.

Oh yeah, don’t forget ear plugs for sleeping, the music goes on all night.

Also if you are planning to stay for the “Burn” get up early the next morning and get out before the traffic gets heavy.

this is why i love Palin. She is a legit free-spirit from the vast and grand frontier of Alaska. While “burners” of the lower, jaded 48 can only hope to be poseurs who cling to their pathetic pseudo-freedoms rather than understand freedom as a way of being.

Its no wonder people feel inadequate compared to her and therefore envious.

That ‘Malcom in the Middle’ episode where the family went to the ‘Burning Man Festival’ was the funniest TV I ever saw. The episode is available in its entirety right here on the web. Google.
