Arizona GOP is Giving Away a Glock
New York Magazine - Daily Intel ^ | 9-2-11 | New York Magazinie

A late August newsletter from the Pima County Republican Party plugged an upcoming raffle with a questionable prize: a Glock handgun, not unlike the one Jared Loughner used to kill six people and wound thirteen others, including Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, in January. "Get yourself a new Glock 23 .40 cal handgun for just 10 bucks — if your name is drawn. That's right, for just 10 dollars this gun could be yours," reads the announcement, which comes complete with a picture of the shiny, black gun. There's also a reminder to act now: "Tickets will go quick for this firearm!" While Giffords's office declined to comment, the Pima Republicans confirmed the raffle. To be fair, this particular Glock model isn't exactly tied to the recent tragedy: Whereas Loughner used a Glock 19, the prize is a Glock 23, which is actually more powerful.

Now if she’d only been packing at this scene. Although I’d hope she had practiced well and wouldn’t ditz out.

Is the gun all that was raffled in this raffle? The story focuses on that prize, but news can lie by omission. To have it among a collection of prizes would clearly show the emphasis was not supposed to be on the gun.

While I agree with you in sentiment, it wasn’t a particularly good choice - Glock, similar model like the actual one used....If I’d have been in charge of the raffle, it would have been one of the new Keltec KSG shotguns - 14 rounds of pump action short action fun!

Honestly, what did anyone expect to happen? Couldn’t they have chosen any other prize? Stupid.

Only stupid if you want to timidly deny your 2nd Amendment rights. Local Cops have a couple raffles a year with brand new shotguns or rifles as the draw. Rather than being stupid by the organizers, it serves more to exhibit the resistance to an actual right - to be armed.

I lived in Arizona for a couple of years in the late 70’s. One thing I’ve always maintained is that Arizona IS unique. I wish I’d never left.

How about a Ruger? Isn’t the Ruger family from Arizona? Words cannot express the ineptitude of the Republican Party in both Phoenix and Tucson. If the Tea Party does anything it should remake the party, breaking down the cities into wards and chosing fresh, young people to take charge.

We should not let the New York Slimes dictate to us what is acceptable.

You are the one who is stupid, to allow your fear of what the dems might say to dictate what you do. How do you suppose they have made the strides they have in this country over the years if not by using people like you whose fear of criticism dictates what they should or should not do.

Arizona GOP is Giving Away a Glock

Like they gave the AZ Senate Primaries away to John McCain and kept them "Open Primaries" so DEMOCRATS COULD VOTE FOR JOHN MCCAIN?!?

Screw the AZ GOP! They're why I'm a proud AZ Indy!

I will never forget this and how upset they made us. We do have some good conservatives in the AZ GOP, but they are outweight and out maneuvered by TREACHEROUS RINOS.

CLOSE THE AZ REPUBLICAN PRIMARIES NOW!!!

A 100th Anniversary 1911 would have been a lot better.

Arizona Friends of NRA committees auctioned or raffled off 23 of those babies this year. The money we raised will go to fund JROTC rifle teams, Women on Target events, range improvements, Boy Scout shooting events, and Scholastic Clay Target Program shotguns, shells, and clay targets.

As for what the Pima County GOP did - Great! It lets the Dems in Pima County show what hypocritical fools they really are.

No, it's politically asinine, if true, and if anyone thinks otherwise, there's no helping them.

The Glock is the only thing my $10 ticket can win. As I predicted here yesterday, tickets were sold out before noon.

Well, my ex Mother-in-Law did used to call me incorrigible.

Then, as she got to know me, she later wished her daughter had stayed married to me...

From my side of the deal, it's politically asinine to be timid about actual rights bestowed upon the People by the Constitution and its Amendments - it's one of the reasons the Left has been winning these last 5-6 decades even though they loudly proclaim "rights" that actually are asinine.

To each his own - I prefer mine anyway - I refuse to roll over due to PC/Political bull****
