Census - Long Form
U.S. Census Bureau ^ | January 1, 2000 | U.S. Census Bureau

Posted on 09/14/2011 7:59:42 AM PDT by ZULU

I have been harassed by phone calls and mailings from the U.S. Census Bureau connected with the long form.

I was provided with the short form which I completed and returned.

But this long form is many pages long and they ask intrusive questions which I feel they have no right to ask.

The consitution appears to provide for a decennial census but I don't see ANYTHING there to justify a form like this monstrosity.

Has anyone else received this thing? Realistically, what can they do to you if you refuse to complete it?

Thanks

I haven't got anything yet. I do remember that, for the the last 2 or 3 censi, I've had to check off Other and put American in the Ethnicity box.

My best friend has done the same thing; and the last time he did it, some bureaucrat called him and threatened legal action unless he changed it to one of the categories. After telling the government to go to hell, he never heard from them again.

ZULU,
I received my long form from the Census. I told my wife to not fill it out or send it in.
She said we have to.
I told her if she did I’d be extremely upset with her and if there was a problem I’d take responsibility for it. I told her the census was by law allowed to ask how many folks lived here, not my sexual orientation. Political affiliation, or how amny warts I have on my rear end. (1).
About a month or so later some ass clowns showed up knocking on my door stating they were from the U.S. census.
I immediately asked them to please get off my property.
They tried to interupt and I VERY strongly but politely told them they were on private property and if they didn’t leave I’d do a citizens arrest and call a cop and have them arrested for tresspassing.
They got on to the road and continued yelling they were from the U.S. census, and I was adamant I was NOT interested.
They left.
That was about 5 months ago.Stay tuned.

I received a long form once. I answered the questions regarding the occupants of the house, and even added a remark about them being US citizens and their voting status. I further commented that the provided information was the Constitutional grounds of the the Census ... and they didn't bother to ask for that information.

For every other question, I answered with "no Constitutional authorty to ask this in the Census". For all questions regarding the details of my home, I replied that the house was made to code and its details are already on file with the county government. I am not paid to do their research.

I didn't hear back from them.

The 2010 Census had only one form. There was no short and long. Not to mention that it was completed last year.

What you have is most likely the American Community Survey, which is ongoing.

If I ever receive one of those, it will be circular filed.

They could not find my house so I got a form at the library and filled it out. What race am I? Legal American. I think I have PTSD and I know I have prostate cancer. I just got my second Purple Heart 44 years late so bring it on big government. Better bring a case of anti acids.

Thanks for the support. I won’t respond.

I checked this in Wikipedia, of all places, and THEY said that although there are statutory penalties, in NO case has the Census Bureau been willing to carry the threats through as it could result in a Constitutional Challenge, which they wish to avoid.

But I wanted to know what other Freepers thought.

Thanks again.

I received BOTH the short and the long forms just last summer. I completed the short but misplaced the long. Later I got a second copy of the long but I lost that one too - I’m so disorganized, it’s terrible! Not sure when but I received a phone call wherein I told them as far as I was concerned I met my obligations with the short, and if they wanted they could come arrest me, but that was all they were going to get and I hung up. I felt bad for the person on the other end, just doing their job, but that’s how it goes sometimes. I have never been arrested!

We received the long form, the American Community Survey, several years ago. I tossed it out twice. Then they called me.
The lady explained the information was used to determine how “government money” was distributed. I told her that was exactly why I objected to their central planning scheme and hung up.
We haven’t heard from them since.

I got a long form. I answered all of the questions that requested number data by using a base converter like this one. Oh, and I didn't tell them which base I was using.

"I've had to check off Other and put American in the Ethnicity box."
last year I was "chosen" to take an energy use survey ( i guess this was started by nixon ) and the very nice lady asked me my ethnicity. I told her american. She told me that I had to choose. I told her my family has been here for 5 generations, and that makes me american. She wrote on her form that I was an american.

Did this just happen? If so, why does the link in your article refer to January 1, 2000?

Just curious.

It just happened.

I couldn’t remember the name of the form as I lost it. So I goggled Census and the Long Form looked like the right one and the version on the Net was dated January 1, 2000.

Subsequently, responders let me know it was actually the Community Service Form.

I received the American Community Survey about 3 weeks ago. I promptly emailed both my Senators and Representative that there is a house bill pending concerning this survey. Currently (according to the Census Bureau) you are legally required to fill this form out and send it in. ( not to say the info must be correct) This bill would make it legal to refuse to fill it out. My form is currently getting closer and closer to the circular file. It will not be filled out or sent in. It is 28 pages of intrusive government garbage.

We got the American Survey last year. They threaten to fine you if you don't fill it out.

I researched the survey online when I got it and the consensus there was that they chase you for about 2 months before giving up.

So we decided to not fill it out. Sure enough, they visited us, called us, etc for about 2 months and subtly threatened that there would be repercussions for not filling it out.

We were evasive with them..."we don't have time", "we're travelling next week", etc. They say they'll sit down with you and help you, etc.

Eventually almost to the day that the 2 months were up they quit harassing us.

NOTE: There is no record of them EVER following through with the penalty. The survey is riciculously intrusive.
