A little quiz for a Sunday: Who Said It?
facebook | 9/18/11 | Hoagy62

Posted on 09/18/2011 2:31:14 PM PDT by hoagy62

I saw a quote on Facebook and I was surprised that the person in question said this. Let's see if my fellow FReepers can guess who said the following...

"Should any political party attempt to abolish Social Security, unemployment insurance, and eliminate labor laws and farm programs, you would not hear of that party again in our political history. There is a tiny splinter group, of course, that believes that you can do these things, but their number is negligible and they are stupid."

Eisenhower, but I doubt he foresaw this debt mess we are in today, so the words hold no more weight.

It was President Dwight D. Eisenhower in a letter he wrote to his brother on November 8, 1954

“but their number is negligible and they are stupid.”

I guess Ike never foresaw the insane level of stupidity that liberals have today compared to 60 years ago.

This was also said in the 1950’s; I don’t think it’s an incredibly ludicrous proposition that what was true about America then might not be true anymore.

Close but no cigar.

“Now it is true that I believe this country is following a dangerous trend when it permits too great a degree of centralization of governmental functions. I oppose this—in some instances the fight is a rather desperate one. But to attain any success it is quite clear that the Federal government cannot avoid or escape responsibilities which the mass of the people firmly believe should be undertaken by it. The political processes of our country are such that if a rule of reason is not applied in this effort, we will lose everything—even to a possible and drastic change in the Constitution. This is what I mean by my constant insistence upon “moderation” in government. Should any political party attempt to abolish social security, unemployment insurance, and eliminate labor laws and farm programs, you would not hear of that party again in our political history. There is a tiny splinter group, of course, that believes you can do these things. Among them are H. L. Hunt (you possibly know his background), a few other Texas oil millionaires, and an occasional politician or business man from other areas.5 Their number is negligible and they are stupid.”

In post #7, Kaslin gives a link to the entire letter and it’s probably worth a read.

I like “Who said it?” quizzes.

Ms. Smith, an Ohio 5th grade teacher said, “OK class, let’s begin by reviewing some American History..... Who said ‘Give me Liberty , or give me Death’ ?”
A sea of blank faces, except for Little Johnny a new enrollee from deep south Texas , quickly had his hand up, waving wildly....: ‘Patrick Henry, 1775, M’am !! ‘ he said.
‘Very good !!!’
Who said, ‘Government of the People, by the People, for the People, shall not perish from the Earth ?’
Again, there was no response except from Little Johnny, ‘President Abraham Lincoln, 1863’.
‘Ooh-h Excellent !!!’, said Ms. Smith, ‘let’s try one a little bit more challenging, OK ... ??’
Who said, ‘Ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country ?’
Once again, Johnny’s was the only hand waving in the air and he said; ‘President John F. Kennedy, 1961’.
Ms. Smith frustrated by the other student’s reluctance to provide answers barks at the class, ‘Children, you should be very ashamed of yourselves, Little Johnny isn’t from Ohio and he knows more about history than you do.’
She heard a loud whisper: ‘F*ck those Texans !!’
‘Who said that ..? I want to know right now!’ she angrily demands.
Little Johnny shoots his hand up, ‘General Santana to the defenders at the Alamo .’
At that point, a student in the back said, ‘ Aw man, I think I’m gonna puke !!’
Ms. Smith glares around and snaps, ‘Who said that !?’
Little Johnny abruptly says, ‘George Bush to the Japanese Prime Minister, 1991.’
Now furious, another student yells, ‘Oh yeah... Well, s*ck this, kid !!!!’
Little Johnny jumps up again out of his chair waving his hand wildly and shouts, ‘President Bill Clinton, to Monica Lewinsky, 1997!’
With almost mob hysteria in the room someone from the back of the class yells, ‘You little sh*t. If you say anything else, I’m gonna kill you !!!’
Little Johnny frantically yells at the top of his voice, ‘Michael Jackson to the kid testifying against him, 2004.’
Upon hearing little Johnny answer...Ms. Smith faints.
The class quickly gathers around the teacher on the floor, someone says, ‘Oh sh*t, We’re all screwed now !’
Little Johnny looks around and proudly says, ‘the American people, November 4, 2008.
