Herman Cain hits back at Morgan Freeman for calling Tea Party 'racist'

Herman Cain is hitting back at Morgan Freeman for calling the Tea Party racist.

The Republican presidential candidate called the Oscar-winning actor’s eyebrow-raising remarks “short-sighted” on Friday. "Most of the people that are criticizing the Tea Partiers about having a racist element, they have never been to a Tea Party," Cain told Fox News.

Freeman, who endorsed Obama in 2007, created a firestorm when he told CNN’s Piers Morgan earlier this week that conservative opposition to the President has enflamed racism in America. He added the Tea Partiers have the mentality of "Screw the country, we're going to do whatever we can to get this black man out of here…It is a racist thing."

Despite the criticism, Cain said he wasn’t offended by Freeman’s comments. "Name calling is something that is going to continue in this because they don’t know how to stop this movement and this movement is making a big difference in politics," said Cain, the former CEO of Godfather’s Pizza.

At a GOP presidential debate on Thursday, Texas Gov. Rick Perry said - if he could - he would pair Cain with ex-House Speaker Newt Gingrich to form his ideal running mate.

Cain was flattered.

"I’ve even seen some of the phrases that I used in the first debate being used in some of the later debates," said Cain. "I’m ok with that; imitation is the best form of flattery."

But Cain trails behind several of the other presidential hopefuls. He stands in fifth place, with 7% support, according to the latest Rasmuseen Reports survey of likely GOP primary voters. Ahead of him are Perry, with 28% support, Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, with 24%, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich at 9%, and Minnesota Rep. Michele Bachmann at 8%.

Morgan Freeman hasn’t found his way off the Democrat Plantation. He’s just parroting what his political masters tell him.

It depends on which poll you look at. Perry had a bump for a while, but Cain is surging again after the debates this week. At one point Friday, he was getting 600 donations an hour.

Here is just a short list of polls with Cain much higher or winning:

POTUS is not an entry-level elected position; if The Hermanator had been a mayor, congressman or even a county commissioner, his chances to lead this pack would be significantly enhanced. He's charming, sharp as a tack and does not have a phony bone in his body.

I hope he runs for something.

Cain will get his chance. Perry's slippage opens doors for Herman and others. Good to see, imho.

I'd like to see Crispy Creme jump in, be hailed as the winner, then shrink like Huntsman, and apparently Perry.

Herm may not be very strong on foreign relations, but I think they've come up with an app for that. :o) He does have the rest of what you need.

“Anyone have a more recent poll where Cain is 5th? “

The margin of error actually has him potentially in 4th place. That is using the usual plus/minus 3%.

I’ve noticed that as well. I think it’s mostly b/c he’s a “straight to the point” type guy, but (sadly) also because he only gets limited amount of talk time compared to Romney and Perry. So he has to make it count.

That’s true, but the article didn’t state that.

The article was dishonest.

Cain v. Obama would end in a 50 57 state sweep for Herman Cain.

Well, thank goodness Herman Cain is not an entry-level candidate then!

He has more executive experience in his little toe than half the people in DC.
