Roger Moore did good as James Bond. Live and Let Die is my favorite Bond film. I read the book too as I have read many of the Bond books.

Happy Birthday Roger, I liked you in the Persuaders; too bad Tony Curtis isn’t around.

Happy Birthday indeed to Sir Roger!

He was an excellent Bond, my favorite Bond/Roger Moore flick was the later ‘Octopussy’.

He was quite superb in that, especially when he kills the murderer of Agent 003, “THAT’s for Double-Oh-Three!”

That was one of his best Bond films. It also had one of the more conservative plots in the series with the Soviet General planning to nuke a US Military base stationed in West Germany to cause the peaceniks to demand the US to withdraw from Europe. Then, the USSR would invade Western Europe. It was very sympathetic to the Reagan/Thatcher view of defense and that was rare to find in a major movie production of the time period.

I believe it was avenging the death of 009 who was dressed in the clown outfit carrying the Faberge egg.

I agree that Octopussy was one of Moore's best Bond films.

Octopussy showed they could write great scripts for Bond (instead of the silly stuff) that were gripping and captured the events of the day.

Ian Fleming was the Tom Clancy of his era.

True. However, I freely admit I enjoy the whackier Bond films as well.

My favorite 8 minutes from the entire Roger Moore 007 era:

No dialogue. Just visual and audio(John Barry at his finest). Pure cinema.

Hey. Thanks. I was irritated that after you mentioned the movie, I went to get it on Netflix. No dice. They didn’t have it.

I used to be a denizen of the late late late shows on TV when they ran these fossils before they went off the air. Luckily my Sony Blu Ray plays You Tube streaming stuff. I can’t wait to get reacquainted with it. I blow peoples minds at cocktail parties with my encyclopedic memory of obscure movies and songs. The fun part now is that everyone has an Iphone and the check to see if I am BSing them and I am always right.
