When Tesla’s application was before DOE loan managers in 2009, there were many indications it was not even in need of the loan. Tesla’s private investors included Google co-founders Sergey Brin & Larry Page, former eBay President Jeff Skoll, Hyatt heir Nick Pritzker, and VC firms Draper Fisher Jurvetson, Capricorn Management, and the Bay Area Equity Fund (managed by JPMorgan Chase). In May 2009, Daimler Chrysler took a stake in Tesla for a reported $50 million. Abu Dhabi’s Aabar Investments reportedly bought 40% of Daimler’s investment.

Saw the Tesla sportscar at a local ubermall. It’s sexier than h*ll....but priced way, way over $100 large. No soap, electric folks.

This won’t work until 1) we get way cheaper and larger capacity batteries, 2) adquate charging facilities, and 3) expanded power production and distribution capacity.

These things I have taught regularly to the bottom level EEs. It’s too bad that virtually none of our political class would be brave enough to enter (let alone pass) any real university level class.

I can just see Nancy Pelosi trying to use Fourier Transforms in a signals and systems class. Clearly she would get an A+.

Everybody with a pulse knows that Tesla is a boondoggle. They have been on the verge of producing that automobile for the last five years. They will never get there.

In the software business, they call it “vaporware”. It is a good-looking product that can be used to attract gullible investors, but it just doesn’t work.

I’d rather she grab onto the “B+” of an old Tube Amp I’ve got laying around... Then she’d surely get the signal from the system!

..that money could have sunk deep wells in hot spots for geothermal high pressure steam turbines to add long term relatively free power to our grid.
