Gingrich Takes The Lead (Was the candidate to beat Obama there all along?)
Public Policy Polling ^ | November 14, 2011 | Tom Jensen

Posted on 11/14/2011 1:50:04 PM PST by Patrick1

Newt Gingrich has taken the lead in PPP's national polling. He's at 28% to 25% for Herman Cain and 18% for Mitt Romney. The rest of the Republican field is increasingly looking like a bunch of also rans: Rick Perry is at 6%, Michele Bachmann and Ron Paul at 5%, Jon Huntsman at 3%, and Gary Johnson and Rick Santorum each at 1%.

After the laughable flirtation with Bachmann, the wishful thinking on Palin and Christie, the Paulbots, the Perry bubble and the Cain fling...there stands Mr. Newt.

I'm not a Gingrich fan and there are questions I would need answered before going all in for him as the nominee. But there he stands as the voting is set to begin next month. He is clearly the best debater, more conservative than Romney and hates the MSM. Was the candidate of our dreams there all along?

What say you FR? I'm not Gingrich fan

Neither am I. He is a fantastic debater -- I loved his jousting with Pelley the other night -- but his actions have rarely lived up to his words. He wants very much to be seen as a uniter, and, in D.C., that usually means Republicans give in to Democrats.

Great mind, though. I wouldn't take that away from him. Just won't vote for him if I have a choice.

I am a Gingrich fan, but haven't considered him for president because of some of his faux pasThat said, he is clearly the most intelligent of the GOP field. Like many highly intelligent people, he is often strange and unpredictable.

He would mop the floor with Obama in a debate, but how would he govern? Frankly, I just don't know.

newt is untrustworthy and when you need him most... he will stab you in the back. Do you really have to ask? Is he better than obama? Yes... but so is a case of herpes.

“He is clearly the best debater, more conservative than Romney and hates the MSM. “

So?

Debates aren’t the election.

Can he draw a crowd? ENTHUSIASTIC crowd.

Can he transcend the MSM wall that will be coming at him?

How is going to handle the flack he didn’t handle in the late 90s?

We are looking for a nominee to beat Obama, not to be a really cool AM talk radio host.

Dr. Thorne and LLS sum it up well for me.

I really wish we had someone better.

Reaching across the aisle ONCE is too many, Newt.

Better than Romney.

Probably the smartest of the bunch, but lots of heavy personal baggage. The key will be what happens when the media/dems launch their smear campaign against him.

So far, the media has succeeded in heavily damaging every single candidate who takes the lead other than their preferred RINO (Romney). Gingrich is tough and quick on his feet, but they will have plenty of fodder to work with.

I think Newt is the guy! He is not only “presidential” but has an untouchable command of the issues. I love Cain too, but because of his lack of experience (what I love him for) and knowledge of global security type issues...I cant vote for him.

We are running out of people on any of those items you listed, which may explain the Gingrich rise.

At this point... If you ain’t for Newt then you must be for Romney... Cause that’s where your sentiments are going to lead...

The Cain Trains appears to be headed in the wrong direction down the tracks... And appearances suggest that it may never pull into the station...

So your viable choices may indeed end up being Newt or Mitt... So who’s it going to be?

Cain is still a better candidate. The MSM is cheering Gingrich for a reason. The best candidate is the one who will go after zer0 on his ineligibility and the midstream media knows Newt won’t. They are scared to death Cain will.

Well... NO, actually. I agree that he’s fun to watch in debates; but I really see little reason to trust him with the leadership of the country. My dream scenario would be for Newt and Chris Christie to join the last GOP debate, pound everybody senseless, and then resign quietly to their day jobs, leaving the leadership position to those who are more committed to conservatism. :)

Actually his baggage doesnt matter because the media/msdnc will just lie anyway. Cain hates woman, Romney hates dogs,Bachmanns husband hates gays, Perry is stupid etc...
Paul is a fruitcake well they are right about that

That is a tough one. Newt is by far, the most experienced and knowledgeable candidate in many years. As you point out, his past has as many wrinkles as Broom Hilda's face.

If it comes down to a dire emergency like the one we will soon have in the Middle East, then there is nobody better than Newt to handle it or than who knows precisely what action to take.

Has Newt seen the light? Has he turned over a new leaf and learned to listen to Conservative principles and traditional values? It's possible. He has repeatedly failed to do so all through his past? Absolutely. So picking him as our candidate will come as a great risk.

But with what this country is faced with in the coming years. It may be a risk we cannot afford not to take.

Hmmmm. Are you trying to claim credit for a blog poll you had nothing to do with?

If so, doesn't that make you a scumsucking liar?

Just asking.
