Please take a moment to vote in the following poll:
"Do you agree with the judge who ruled in favor of the school district in the case in which two administrators sent four students home for wearing American-themed clothing in Cinco de Mayo?"
This stems from a 2009 incident where 5 boys in our community wore US flag shirts to school on Cinco de Mayo, and were sent home by the principal and VP for doing so. Students wearing the colors of the Mexican flag were allowed to remain in school.
The following day, about 200 hispanic kids marched out of school "for respect" waving Mexican flags down the street as they went.
To this day, only the boys who wore US flag apparel have been punished. The school district, and everyone who wants to represent their Mexican pride by walking out of school in protest, suffered no consequences
The poll will appear on the left-hand side of the webpage when it loads.
thank you for you consideration. We need help in California.
....I can’t believe this question is even being asked - and that there are people that will agree with this decision. :(
And everyone wonders why this nation is going down the crapper. :(:(:(:(
Question: Do you agree with the judge ... ?
Yes (45%)
No (55%)
Total Votes:195
The students should wear the US flag everyday of the school year.
The should state they are ‘offended’ by the mexican flag being worn on july 4th, flag day, lincoln’s birthday, Washington’s birthday, veteran’s day, constitution day, groundhog day, valentine’s day, and every day that ends with a ‘Y’.
If the ruling was meant to support a school’s authority to action there may have been some merit.
But we know the purpose was to hate America.
I bet if the point is to ‘not offend’ I could find some clothing worn on that same day which would have offended me, and I would have been required to shut up and deal with it.
trouble is- the kids have all of those days off.
Thanks Tzimisce!
Right now there are only about 170 votes, but it is evenly split at 50%-50%. (Which speaks volumes about this town)
For the record, those who support the judges decision are basically saying that the boys did this to get a reaction. They were acting in a provocative manner by dressing that way.
To me, that doesn’t make a bit of difference, but that’s how people who feel differently than me justify their conclusion that it’s okay to disrespect our flag...because those boys were being mean.
They just don’t get it. And I doubt they ever will.
FREEP THIS POLL ***PING!*** FRmail me if you want to be added or removed from the Fearless Poll-Freeping Freepers Ping list. And be sure to ping me to any polls that need Freepin', if I miss them. (looks like a medium volume list) (gordongekko909, founder of the pinglist, stays on the list until his ghost signs up for the list)
You guys are awesome.
Long Live the Free Republic!!!!
Hoo-Ahhh
60% no, now.
A similar situation happened just over the hill in Denair (central valley of California).
13-year-old boy (Cody Alicea, I think his name is) was told he couldn’t fly Old Glory off the back of his bike due to “safety concerns”. Like just the sight of a US flag is enough to send certain people into a blind rage.
This state has gone to complete cr@p
“The following day, about 200 hispanic kids marched out of school “for respect” waving Mexican flags down the street as they went.”
And just keep marching until you cross the border.
Just think about this.
One of those kids could have a family member fighting in a war zone to defend the flag the kid was suspended for having a picture on his shirt.
That it was Cinco Mayo is not relevant. This is America not Mexico. Those of Hispanic descent are free to celebrate their the day and no one was stopping them. That they would be offended seeing an America flag in America is just silly. The school administrator that suspended them should be fired.
They marched from the school...to City Hall...and to Taco Bell.
I’m not joking. I couldn’t make this stuff up. That’s really where they marched to. LOL
So I guess they did ‘make a run for the border’. Sorry...it was too easy.
Here’s what the gutless principal at Live Oak High School should have said over the PA system on 4 May last year: “The American flag is welcome at this school every day of the week. Any Hispanic student who has a problem with that and creates contention of any kind, will be EXPELLED immediately. Have a great day.”
5 May is a “celebration” of an inconsequential fight in ONE Mexican state,Puebla, in 1862 between France and Mexico because Mexico didn’t pay it’s debt. Get over it.
Make wearing our colors MANDATORY. Let the illegals cry back to messy co.
UHHHHH...NO!!
Just an extra tidbit...2 of the boys who were sent home for wearing USA colors are of Hispanic descent.
Which put a bit of a damper on them being called racists. But they are still being called racists, nearly 2 years after the incident
Won’t take a no vote, I get a 404 message
Same here.
