HE was heading for a pan of boiling water, ready to be served up for dinner.
But this electric-blue lobster has given scientists food for thought instead because of its colour.
The eye-catching crustacean named Lionel was caught by fishermen off Scotland and sent to a London market.

But fishmonger Rex Goldsmith thought he was too beautiful to eat and bought him for a tenner before handing him over to the Natural History Museum.
Rex, 45, who saw Lionel at Billingsgate Market while buying supplies for his Chelsea Fishmonger shop, said: Its the most striking blue lobster I have seen in 30 years in the business and was too nice to put in a pot and boil.
The museum believes the European lobster, usually a much darker shade of blue, has a rare genetic variant.
Lionel will go on display at the London Aquarium well it would be shellfish not to show him off.
HE IS BEAUTIFUL. How big is he?
My daughter just told me a blue lobster is one in 2 Million a yellow lobster is one 30 million and the Crystal Lobster is one in 100 million..She had some video she played on her ipod.
the blue lobster is blue because of a genetic defect that makes them produce too much protien..
Hey she did learn something in School.

Thank you.
Don't know. I'd guess about a pound. His body is 27cm long which is about 10.5 inches. Tip of the claw to tip of the tail is 40cm which is about 16 inches.
Paging George Carlin......I’ve found the blue food!
Thanks JJ.
You have to see the picture of him in order to appreciate him. He really is a beautiful blue.
Good for her
Thank you Professor.
Don’t turn tail and run because of it.
