Against the advice of the other animals, Mother Polar Bear adopts Baby Brown Bear when he arrives, alone and frightened, at City Zoo.
PAGE 1
One summer day, Baby Brown Bear arrived at City Zoo.
All the animals gathered to see the new cub.
(The animals and their children circle around the frightened little bear)
PAGE 2
The strange new faces frightened Baby Brown Bear.
Come here, Baby Brown Bear, said Mama Polar Bear. Ill be your mother.
She scoops Baby Brown Bear into her arms, hugging him tight.
PAGE 3
You? the other animals gasped.
Of course, said Mama Polar Bear. All bears need love.
(The other animals frown/scowl)
PAGE 4
The giraffe scoffed, He doesnt look like you.
I think hes beautiful, said Mama Polar Bear.
(The smiling baby giraffe dips her neck down low and playfully nudges Baby Brown Bear)
PAGE 5
The elephant frowned, You dont know where he came from.
What matters is hes here now, said Mama Polar Bear.
(The baby elephant shows off - balances on one leg and waves her trunk. Baby Brown Bear gives shy smile.)
PAGE 6
The camel spit, Hes an outsider. Hell never fit in.
Ill make sure he knows he belongs, said Mama Polar Bear
(The baby camel bows down on its front knees and smiles, showing its huge teeth. Baby Brown Bear gives a big toothy smile right back.)
PAGE 7
The hyena snickered, Everyone will tease him.
Ill teach him to be proud, said Mama Polar Bear.
(The baby hyena crosses his eyes and makes a silly face. Baby Brown Bear giggles and makes a face, too.)
PAGE 8
The monkey screeched, You have your own cubs to care for.
A mothers heart grows with love for ALL her children, said Mama Polar Bear.
(The baby monkey waves Baby Brown Bear over to play with the other kids. Baby Brown Bear inches closer to the kids.)
PAGE 9
The anteater sniffed, No one will believe hes yours.
He will know. Thats whats important, said Mama Polar Bear.
(The baby anteater uses his nose to roll a ball to Baby Brown Bear.)
PAGE 10
The kangaroo sneered, Hes too different. This will never work!
Family is family, no matter the differences, said Mama Polar Bear.
(The baby kangaroo hops up and down - wants to play ball too.)
PAGE 11
The lion roared, Will he be raised as a brown bear or a polar bear?
He will be the best of both, said Mama Polar Bear. (The baby lion chases his tail. Baby Brown Bear spins in circles chasing his tail too.)
PAGE 12
That day, the Polar Bear family grew one Baby Brown Bear bigger.
And in the evening, when all the animals were asleep, one whisper could be heard.
The zoo is dark and quiet
PAGE 13 I am home now and will stay with you always, Baby Brown Bear said.
Because all bears need love.
(Baby Brown Bear snuggles into Mama Polar Bears arms, smiling.)
PAGE 14
And so remained the Polar Bear family until one day a Baby Koala Bear arrived at City Zoo.
A little koala bear is surrounded by the zoo animals.
THE END
Beautiful story and it hits home. I hope she can get this published. I would be the first one to order it.
Thanks for voting!
Cute story, good for kids but unrealistic.
In real life, nature is a mean mother. Mama Polar Bear would quickly kill little brown bear, eat him and feed her cubs the leftovers!

I wish someone had told us this when we adopted our 13 year old (now 16).
We could have saved a lot of money on food, clothes and schooling if we had just fried her up. :)
