I had seen commercials for that organization International Fellowship of Christians and Jews about helping Jews in the former USSR, but they have a new commercial now. They ask for 25$ to feed starving Jews in Jerusalem. They say they'll stick in a blessing note.
I wasn't aware that Jerusalem was having a problem feeding its citizens.
Does anyone have additional info?
Apparently the ad is targeting the wealthy American Jews who consistently vote (D)umb.
I don't quibble with your statistics; they're quite interesting. But your statement about exporting less than importing and having to have the difference made up is wrong.
A trade deficit applies only to goods and services. A negative balance in those means that, instead of buying Israel's produced goods in return, foreigners are investing in Israeli bonds, stocks or real estate. They have to -- Israel is the only place in the world where you can spend Israeli currency.
And, just as in the U.S., that invested capital is then used to expand the local economy.
American aid to Israel isn't to compensate for their trade deficit, it's to help them pay for a military all out of proportion to their size -- which is for very good reason, of course.

It can be difficult to tell. I recall almost sending money to a charity assisting rescuing dogs during Katrina. Gave to the SPCA instead, and a yaer later saw that the people that ran it were charged with fraud and theft.
That is explained in the commercial. Because the bulk of Israel’s resources are used for defense against terrorism, there is a shortage of funds that would ordinarily help the people. I have no doubt that it is a legitimate charitable cause.
It’s most likely a bs shake-down.
Did they brake down there operating costs?
I agree with your husband. I hate this commercial. It’s blatant emotionalism trying to move people to give. I have always wondered if it was true. I did give for people to fly back to Israel a long time ago and I don’t regret that, but this is suspect!
They don't watch Fox News, where the commercial usually plays.
Plus, if they give to Israel they have more established organizations.
Yes, the commercial plays on the idea that things are worse off in Israel than they are, but you can always find poor or poorer people in any country, so they may be legit.
OMG!!! That post was from 2011!!!!!! You must be a VERY busy person!!!
Everyone assumes the money is going to jews. I watched the commercial very carefully and it makes no mention of Jews, just people of Israel. The money could well be going to Palestinians living in Israel
It’s years old, maybe a decade. It’s a scam directed at Christian televangelist fans. Jews of various persuasions know legitimate charities that actual do what is needed.
All I read about IFCJ says this is a Chicago based organization whose main purpose is to line the pockets of its founder, Yechiel Eckstein. Many articles state that any funds actually aiding poof Israelis would indeed be a miracle.
I’m still trying to figure out how America has 16 million starving children.
This isnt a scam. Its about elderly Jewish Holocaust survivors and other elderly Jews who r living in the former Soviet Union (and Israel). Alone, no family, major medical issues who need food, and companionship. Just having the Fellowship Volunteer deliver the food each day or 3 days per week, makes their day. Until you see it with your own eyes, do NOT judge. I have done this here in Tempe AZ delivering to the elderly and homebound for 7 years, 5 days a week. I stopped in 2017, but its something i will always know exists, for people who r hungry, alone, and in need. It will always b with me in my heart.
