Newt Crashes, Romney Soars On InTrade
Business Insider ^ | December 15th | Zeke Miller

Posted on 12/17/2011 4:00:51 PM PST by Halfmanhalfamazing

Newt Gingrich's fortunes on the prediction betting website InTrade have collapsed in the past three days, amid an unrelenting assault from all sides in the Republican field.

After pushing close to 40 percent on the site, he's down to a 16.5 percent chance of winning the nomination. Mitt Romney, who fell as low as 42 percent on the site last week, is back up to 64 percent.

The radical swing is a reflection of the growing unease on all sides about Gingrich's viability as the nominee - and recent polling showing that Gingrich's rise to the top in Iowa was just a blip.

THE TRUTH ABOUT INTRADE: Why You Should Totally Ignore It During The Election

businessinsider.com

Nov. 11, 2011
Because by looking at it you might think you're getting fresh insight into the data or more information somehow, but what you're really getting is a different way of seeing the same mainstream groupthink that you could get anywhere else. That's very dangerous.

They will try to re-roll the dice hoping that Romney comes up 7’s. Try as they may, Newt Gingrich will come up on top because he is the most qualified to get it done in Washington D.C. In fact, if you told Mitt that Washington was bordered by the Potomac River, he might ask, “Are you talking about Washington where the Space Needle is?”

I agree. I will never vote for Romney.

Let’s up the ante:

“I will work to defeat Romney in either the primary or the general election no matter where he appears.”

That would require:

1. The desire to build a new party with this as a propitious moment to do so, or

2. A belief that Romney will actually be worse for Republicanism, or

3. An alternative candidate or party to vote for, or

4. A belief that a vote for either violated one’s religion, ethics, morality, etc.

Of course the Democrats want Romney to succeed because they know he is beatable. Why else would they be supporting him against a powerful Newt?

It doesn't seem to be quite so simple.

The Democrats don't think Romney is easily beatable. Most of their earlier obvious ("signed") effort was directed at Romney. The official YouTube videos, etc.

Since then, there seems to have been a realization on some level that the Democrats don't lose if Romney is elected. Romney seems to be more or less ok with Democrats at the moment, and as a result, the Democrats seem to have backed down a bit from the Romney hate and have set about getting rid of everyone else. Good for Romney, bad for Conservatives. What else is new?

If Obama wins, Democrats get a liberal. If Romney wins, they get a liberal. Obama is probably the easier to control of the two, which is why they'd more-or-less prefer Obama. But if Obama's number keep tanking, I think Democrats know that they will do fine with Romney.

It's a mess.

Okay - that makes me feel a lot better. They are basically saying that the bettors read the papers and the pundits and then place their bets, according to what those sources say. So what else is new...

I don’t like Newt, but I will vote for him, if I have to. Anyone, with the exception of Ron Paul would be better than Obama. I like Mitt Romney, and he did the best he could in Mass. with an 85% Dem. legislation. At least, he has been married to the same women for 45 years, and has wonderful family. Newt on the other hand was demeaning to Bachman, and I think he can’t be trusted on any position.
Romney has changed his positions as he got older, just like we all have. Newt changes his mind every minute.
I don’t think women are going to like Newt, when they hear about how he treated his former wives.

When are people gonna wake up to the fact that, in the general election, most people (Republicans included) vote on the basis of looks, personna, charisma, leadership qualities, did I say looks ....

The most conservative candidate is NOT always the best .... contrary to what rush limbaugh likes to claim. And I love Limbaugh.

People want a president that looks like a president. Usually someone tall and well manored.

Don’t get me wrong. I wish everyone would gravitate to the most conservative ... but that is just not the way the American electorate acts .... and considering that our first mission is to defeat Obama ... then Romney isn’t a bad choice.

They also want a president who can spell correctly, so I guess that leaves you out.

On Intrade less than a week ago, Romney was below 45%. He took a major hit as Gingrich was rising in the polls. Next thing you know, the media, Romney surrogates and establishment GOP pundits begin hitting Gingrich left and right (I have some issues with Newt, but the media NEVER attacked Romney’s terrible record the way they do everybody else’s... it’s sickening. He is coddled because he’s the liberalist candidate).

They’re pushing the same b.s. narrative that the guy who was pro-abortion, anti-gun, pro-gay & made the blueprint for ObamaCare is inevitable & that he’s the only “electable” candidate, so we all have to “fall in line”.

The liberal media is blatantly manipulating the public... until he’s up against their true chosen ONE. The media is NOT going to keep throwing him softballs in the general election. They will suddenly start caring about abortion and conservatism. Now, do we think Romney’s going to stand up for conservative values against Obama or is he going to try to out-liberal him like he tried to do Ted Kennedy? Romney has never stood up for conservative values so we can take a wild guess what route he’s going. And he’s going to try to drag us down with him.

Can you imagine him as our nominee and trying to explain why “RomneyCare covers baby killing with a 50 buck co-pay and oh yea, it gives free healthcare to illegals too.”

The ONLY reason he’s considered electable to the MSM is because he’s viewed as a moderate/liberal. It’s not because he’s a “conservative”. All we have to do is look at his record to see he’s anything but conservative. He even described himself as progressive: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K2XkKK1mio4

Then, real conservatives are stuck defending a tissue paper-thin candidate. Romney WILL lose in the general election.

DON’T fall for the media’s lies again.

I don’t think women are going to like Newt, when they hear about how he treated his former wives.

And the DNC machine is going to hammer Newt with that, you can count on it. I'd vote for Newt in a heartbeat over Obama but I still have doubts that he can win.

They’ve got way more material on Romney’s governing record, his own quotes and his past positions to hammer than they do Newt’s. I’m not understanding why people don’t see that Romney has more baggage than anyone else based on his liberal record, and that once he is put under the microscope he’s going to get destroyed. I can’t think of one of the candidates who has a more liberal record than Romney. All he does is SAY he’s a conservative. His record says otherwise.
