Weight of water from global warming is causing and will cause large earthquakes!!
Vanity post

Posted on 12/26/2011 9:15:48 PM PST by Wicket

A friend of mine watches the History Channel, because that's true information. Apparently she's seen a program twice about how global warming is causing the ice to melt and the additional weight of the water is increasing the likelihood of earthquakes.

Danger, Will Robinson, danger!!!

That seems more of a concern to me.

Many earthquakes in the Arctic?

I’m speechless......

What a failure of the public education system to actually teach.

What a success on the part of the public education system to brainwash and inoculate against common sense.

Man's influence is measured in tens of parts per million or less.

The natural growth in CO2 would have been 5-10 ppm if we were not around (from the ocean warming following the Little Ice Age). Instead we have added more than 100ppm and we are still adding.

Water vapor is a far more potent gas

True, but water vapor condenses out and CO2 does not.

You might also let your friend know that it is extremely abnormal and dangerous to the biosphere for the Earth's Arctic region to have an icesheet like it does today.

True and a good point.

not even the immediate combustion of every drop of fossil fuel known to man in the past, present, and future contains enough thermal energy to stop the ice sheets from growing.

A red herring since thermal energy from the sun far exceeds anything we could do with fossil fuels. As you point out afterwards, once the sun decides to increase luminosity the earth will warm up drastically.

Going from freezing to liquid changes the weight? Who knew?

Tells ya something about the quality of the so-called scientists backing global warming scams...

Put a glass of ice water on a scale on her kitchen cabinet, just for fun.

They do, and they get very heavy! I usually put 32-34 lbs. per square in. in them. I believe my car would float away if it were not for the weight of the air in my tires.
