'Jurassic Park' scientist aims to hatch a dinosaur using DNA from birds
Daily Mail ^ | Dec. 29, 2011 | Ted Thornhill and Zoe Brennan

Some might say that only a bird brain could come up with such a plan, but scientist Jack Horner is hoping to use living birds to hatch a dinosaur.

Horner, the technical adviser on Jurassic Park and professor of palaeontology at Montana State University believes that a modern bird’s DNA contains a genetic memory that could be ‘switched on’ again, resurrecting long-dormant dinosaur traits.

What’s more, he’s looking for a helper to assist in the retro-engineering of a prehistoric beast.

He told LiveScience: ‘I'm looking for a postdoctoral researcher. An adventurous postdoc who knows a lot about developmental biology and a little bit about birds.’ Horner explains that to make a dinosaur, he would start with the genome (the whole hereditary information encoded in the DNA) of an emu.

‘Emus have all the features we need in order to make a Velociraptor-sized dinosaur,’ he says.

‘If I were to make a dinosaur, that is where I’d start.’

Far-fetched as this sounds, his work is supported by other leading academics.

Something tells me there is a reason god killed them off before he let us take over the planet.

I suspect, should they be successful we’ll have problems much like the movie.

A) Technically, as far as a cook can follow GATC coding goes... he might be right.

B) What could possibly go wrong?

Who cares? As long as I can get that great big rack of ribs like Fred Flinstone, I'll be happy!

Horner is convinced that birds today are the dinosaurs of yesterday. Want your very own dinosaur? Buy a bird! Right....

I would think its already been done, all that is waiting is for the sheeple to be conditioned enough to accept strange stuff, kinda like having a BBC TV series perhaps?

I've already got a rub and a baste ready.

Can't be that different from iguana or croc.

We have opposable thumbs and BBQ sauce. We win.

Good to be at the top of the food chain.

Some people can't leave well enough alone...

...we all know that just recently, a bunch of scientists developed a strain of chicken flu which has the potential to wipe out 25% of the human population on the earth....

...they were even urged not to publish their findings in technical publications...

...how long will it take before some lunatic group is threatening to turn it loose on the world???

...as "they" say....two people can keep a secret......if one of them is dead.

Sort of like global warming.

In case you mother never told you, Jack, there are two rules.

You feed it and you clean up after it.

Hey, throw in some giant spider DNA, too, Doc! That's make a really cool grant magnet for your lab. Don't worry about a thing; after all, you've got a science degree!

Nah. A real live velociraptor would be the most cool thing ever. Turn him loose at a Stillers' football game...He, Harrison and Palomalu could have a circlejerk at the midfield stripe. As for Jurassic Park, that was an over heated, overblown chronicle, not of mankind's Hubris against nature, but of shabby zoo-keeping.
