Unplugging each and every appliance and device not in use can be a pain, but it's something you must do if you don't want to pay for standby power or the energy consumed by electronics while they're switched off. Right now you can use a power strip to make unplugging easier, but if PumPing Tap's designers ever bring their product to market, you don't have to worry about unplugging at all...

Instead of unplugging it why the heck don’t they just turn off then outlet. That way when you need the device again you don’t have to plug it in.
Pretty stupid
Why in the world would you eject the plug rather than just turning off the power?
How stupit..just have the outlet turn itself off
The greenies have a woodie about this idea.
There are brilliant inventions.
And there are what-U-been-smoking totally retarded ones.
This one sure fits the pattern...
I imagine the patent examiner is STILL laughin his ass off!
Am I the only one whose initial reaction to this concept is one of complete irritation?
Which in the grand scheme of things, ain't gonna cost you that much.
If it's made by man, it will eventually break. When the spring starts sticking the outlet is going to have to be replaced and if you don't have the knowledge to replace it yourself, you're gonna need to hire someone to do it for you and so what's that gonna cost?
No thanks, if I want something unplugged I'll do it myself...........
No, I’m not going to allow democrat wall outlets into my house.
If an appliance is turned off, HOW can it be consuming electricity?
Just wait ‘till some genius in Congress discovers this, and writes its mandate into some mult-thousand page bill that no one will ever read until the outlet inspectors come knocking on your door.
Yes, that is a stupid idea. But, I have an Uncle who believes that you don’t leave an unused extension cord plugged into an outlet because the electricity will run out the end of it. Duh!
So if I don’t watch the TV/DVD for a while, I have to move the entertainment center to plug it back in???
KMA
No, you’re not alone.
Actually, with modern stuff, that’s true. Consider your TV with its remote. For you to be able to turn it on with the remote, the circuitry which does that is always running, waiting for you to push the button on the remote. The TV is using much less power than it would when the screen is lit up, but it’s still using power.
The same applies to computers, printers, monitors, microwave ovens, etc. etc. etc.
>>If an appliance is turned off, HOW can it be consuming electricity?<<
Because most modern appliances aren’t “off” when turned “off.” Almost every appliance/device keeps a tiny charge going for “instant on” (not having to warm up).
How do you think your TV can respond to the remote control? It is on, just asleep.
I have been angry since low flush toilets.
Many devices (mostly electronics) have an "instant-on" feature that consumes small amounts of electricity even after you've turned it off. Remember how TV sets used to have to "warm up" after turning them on?
Usually, you can turn off the instant-on feature, but most people don't bother. I think the British have the right solution -- each outlet has an on/off switch.
Nope. Not the only one.
