About Congress's apparently record low approval ratings

Posted on 01/05/2012 12:22:45 PM PST by emax

The long and short of it is that I had read and heard it being spread around that Congress's approval rating is the worst it has been in 40 years. It has gone as low as 5 % apparently and hasnt approached 20 % approval in months. Considering that it is Republican and conservative majority, that suggests that maybe Americans now want to be under a purely liberal government and that most Americans want socialism. I mean, it seems like there is a zero chance of ensuring that Republicans still have the White House in 2012, especially since Americans have recently tended to flip back and forth between having Dems and Repubs control Congress every 2 years. Do conservatives have a real chance, and are there concrete steps that can be taken, to ensure that Republicans still have Congress or, worst case scenario that they become a minority, that they at least form enough of a plurality to block the staunch liberal elements of Congress from passing obscene new laws ?

Remember, Obama is running against Congress, at least until he has a clear Republican opponent. Then he will be running against both. When the MSM all start telling you how unpopular Congress is, you know something is afoot!

I think it’s because Congress wants the Packers to win the Super Bowl. (Just a clumsy way of illustrating your logical fallacy).

#1 Considering that it is Republican and conservative majority

No, the House is, the Senate is not.

#2 People love to moan about congress, but will then re-elect THEIR guy because that one isnt the real problem.

#3 Congress does not flip every two years:

1995-2006 GOP (10 Years)

2007-2010 Dem (4 Years)

That might be true. The thing I fear a lot is about changes in what the American people desire. There as been a lot of concern and hysterics lately over new laws introduced and some laws passed by Congress and Obama. My fear is that what if Americans have become so far detached from their traditions and history and liberties and the Constitution that they now truly want Obama to be a dictator and that the majority of Americans will want him to have 4 terms or even more than that and want him to remake America entirely on his own terms and for Congress and SCOTUS and our military to obey his word at all times. Obama can only get excessive power and defy the law of the land to the extent that the majority of the people will allow and encourage it.

No one conservative or republican seems to care that the highest approval rate for congress was when it was most under republican control.

‘Considering that it is Republican and conservative majority’-—————PROPAGANDA BS.

You left out the radicals of the senate. They are considered the ‘congress’ too, you know , the side Barack Hussein Obama is from....Harry Reid, Nancy Pelosi, remember them??? Of course not, because this hit piece is nothing but blatant lies and propaganda.

I see. So then do you have any predictions or educated guesses on how many seats on Congress Conservatives and/or Republicans will have in 2012, based on discussions with others and updates from news sources outside MSM and other sources ? Significantly more or less or about the same as they have now ?

Boehner and McConnell should have lost these leadership positions in 2009 or certainly 2011. They were carry-overs from the GWB era.

Clearly they are not able to lead a coordinated counter-attack on Obama and he is using them as sitting ducks to fire on. Their performance is pathetic and their members don’t seem to want to win either.

I don’t foresee the numbers flipping in any direction significantly. The GOP will pick up house seats in some states due to redistricting to compensate for any stray lose here or there.

Democrats have to defend more Senate seats than Republicans this year. I see maybe a two or three pickup.

Media nitwits continually harp on Congress' "low approval ratings" especially in comparison to the President's. What they don't seem to understand is that it is comparing apples to oranges.

When you ask a Democrat what he thinks of Congress, he thinks of the House GOP leadership or the tea party and gives "Congress" low ratings. If you ask a Republican what they think of Congress, they think of Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid and give "Congress" low ratings. Asking about Congress pre-determines the response you'll get.

In contrast, when anyone is asked to rate "the President" there's no doubt who you're talking about, and so it accurately reflects the national mood about the Executive, mixing together both Democrats and Republicans.

Considering that it is Republican and conservative majority...

The House is majority Republican, but not the Senate. If what you said were true, we'd be in much better shape with regards to Zero's dictatorial excesses.

I see, do you think Republicans can get a majority in the Senate too, or at least keep the balance close to where it is now with Democrats not gaining too many more seats ?

I think we're going to see another massive flush of congressional Democrats in November. Most people in this country rightfully see them as bearing the brunt of the blame for the horrible condition our country's in, and will fire them by the score.

The handwriting's on the wall, and most senior Democrats have read it. Lots of them have already expressed their intention to not seek re-election this year. Many of those who are up for re-election don't stand a snowball's chance of returning to Congress.

My guess is, we take both houses of Congress, and the White House this year. The country's had it with the Commies.

CONGRESS? How about ALL government, ALL media, ALL public “education”? We have undergone incremental fundamental transformation for a long, long, long time. To grasp it...you’d have to go back to the pre-Constitution days...the anti-federalists. Go ahead. Try to put a harness (the Constitution) on diabolical totalitarians.

Thanks

I been seeing and warning about this for a while but the latest FICA/SS tax cut train wreck and capitulation has woke up many more Republicans to this reality than might have been. We can only hope they do better this year,

Instead of polling about “Congress”, they need to poll on the approval of the Senate and House separately. I believe that a lot of the negative poling is about the current Senate.

Though the low numbers of approval for Congress have been cited for years now, they do NOT apply to the individual’s own representative, but to members in other districts and states.
