So Romney thinks that attacking a bailout, workers being tossed, etc, is attacking free enterprise?

Romney has said that Obama is putting free-enterprise on trial and that some in the GOP are joining him? What?

This is according to the un-aired ad "Bain & Co: The 1994 Ad By Sen. Ted Kennedy Which Will Floor Mitt RomBOT In 2012":

The day Romney took over at Bain, "he had his predecessor fire hundreds of employees." The company was rescued with "a federal bailout of $10 million dollars."

"According to the Globe, Romney's company failed to repay at least $10 million to a failed bank and the rest of us had to absorb the loss. Romney abd others made $4 million dollars in this deal."

As I have said, all of this will be examined in 2012 (already starting) and if true, then those attacking Newt and Perry just might be seen as hypocrites. Solyndra anyone?

Is all venture capitalism created equal? If it is YOUR money and you fire hundreds of employees how is that creative destruction the same as this? How? Are they different? Does a federal bailout change the picture?

If yes, then you cannot attack Newt and Perry as being anti-free enterprise. Was that $10 million bailout free? Did taxpayers foot the bill? All voters will remember, whatever arguments are given that justify a bailout, is the $4 million and workers being fired. They willlthen compare the two. What then?

If Romney and others got $4 million, and if there was a bailout, and if hundreds were fired, how can the GOP support this and not be ripped by voters? Whatever you take Obama to task for, you must take Romney to task for. That is called being unbiased.

Pro-Democrat bailouts = Pro-Republican bailouts. Dem crony capitalism = Repub crony capitalism. Dems are now saying Solyndra=Bain. How will the GOP counter that now? What is going to happen to all of the anti-crony capitalism arguments that the GOP was storing up for 2012?

In the end, if Obama supports bailouts and Romney does, too, and Newt and Perry are challenging them or will challenge the bailout this ad talks about, then it would be Romney and Obama putting free enterprise on trial, not Newt or Perry.

If Romney supported a $10 million dollar federal bailout, and Obama supports bailouts, and Gingrich and Perry come out in opposition to the $10 million dollar bailout, then it will be Romney and Obama, not Newt and Perry, putting free enterprise on trial.

So now I’m really confused. A socialist is being attacked by conservatives for being a capitalist, taking the word of the socialist mainstream media who is criticizing said socialist for being a socialist.

He’s not being attacked for being a capitalist, but for being untruthful. Romney tried to pretend that his business experience was somewhat like his father’s (head of GM), but he was actually not in a productive industry but in a speculative area of the financial industry that profited off of dying companies or even off of killing other companies. This may have its purpose (within reason), but Romney has to be honest about it and defend it.

He’s especially got to explain that inconvenient part about the bailout (which is the same kind of crony capitalism that Obama’s crowd has engaged in).

Bail out, no. But companies should have the right to hire and fire without government interference.

Romney supported TARP.

Romney is the preferred guy of big capital, i.e., private equity, hedge funds, pension funds, etc.

IMHO, big capital is going to be looking for bailouts within the next few years.

This is why Bachmann was vilified and shoved out of the primary, since she could not be relied on to push more bailouts.

Romney supporting TARP is at this link...

No, the theme of this thread is that if you take a $10 million dollar federal bailout and taxpayers get stuck with the bull, you are not pro-free enterprise.

And if workers get tossed and you get $4 million, too, then you are a corporate raider vulture capitalist to boot.

Should taxpayers get stuck with a $10 million dollar bill and Romney and others get to walk away with $4 million out of it?

Is that free enterprise at work?

Should those who attack Solyndra (and they should) attack the $10 million dollar bailout, too?

Equating Bain with Capitalism is like equating a shady Bounty Hunter with Law Enforcement.

A lot of people here on Free Republic have never been around venture and vulture capitalists. There really is a difference. I have nothing but good vibes for venture capitalists who provide not only money, but expertise and grit. But there are plenty of vultures who are just out to strip companies of assets by being clever - it really amounts to sophisticated theft. We’ll see which group Romney falls under.

He’s either a very confused perennial pres. candidate—not unlike Paul (I find it interesting he wound up one, two in NH)—and/or he’s the RINO we all know he is.

Yep. Bail outs are never the way "out". But again, companies have (or should have, anyway) the right to lay off or fire whoever they want.

This is all assuming that the Ted Kennedy ad, you know Ted Kennedy, liar and killer of women, and the Boston Globe, a left-wing rag, are telling the truth?

And no, I’m not a Romney-bot, I’m a Perry supporter. Just hate to see left-wing lies spread around on a conservative website.

Here’s the actual story if anyone is interested:
