Residents fearful panther is stalking neighborhood

Some kind of predator is on the loose near a neighborhood in Davie, and it has residents trying to figure out what it is.

Max Gress' mother, Lori, told him she saw it attack their cat. He told NBC Miami her best guess was that it was a panther.

"My mom said there was a huge panther in the back yard, and as soon as you come in there, you see the trees torn up with claw marks," said Gress, who lives in the 6100 block of Southwest 56th Street.

If it’s a Florida panther (Puma concolor), it’s an endangered species, so you better not mess with it (and get caught).

Why did those wimpy people move to Florida in the first place?

This should be prime mating season for cougars, mountain lionms, panthers, and big cats.

I didn’t know panthers would “tear up trees with clawmarks”. Was it using the tree as a scratching post? Maybe the guy needs to go to petsmart and get one of those covered in carpet and put it in his yard.

Cover the tree trunk with carpet, cover the carpet with catnip?

I’m about 100 miles north of Davie and 10 miles west of Port St. Lucie.
Here we have bob cats aligators, every kind of bird imaginable, cayotes and wolves, and an occational Florida Panther.
They help keep the wabbit population down and are more afraid of you than you are of them.

Its a panther that has discovered Muffy the cat or dog is easier to run down and kill than a deer.
