Man kills Chihuahua with golf club, hit it 'as if driving a ball off its tee' : police

A Southern California man who allegedly killed a miniature 6-pound dog by teeing off on the Chihuahua with a golf club has been charged with felony animal cruelty.

Larry Jaurequi, 58, faces up to four years in jail if convicted, Riverside County prosecutors said.

A police report states Jaurequi swung the club against the little dog, named Lily, "as if driving a ball off its tee."

"The force of the swing sent the animal flying through the air. The suspect was preparing for a second swing when he was stopped by people that had just witnessed his acts," Sgt. Sergio Rodriguez with the Riverside County Sheriff's Department wrote of the Jan. 26 incident.

Jaurequi allegedly approached the Chihuahua in a cul-de-sac near his residence after the dog escaped along with Poodle from its owner's house while the owner was at work.

The owner found the injured dog suffering as the suspect was walking away from the location, police said. The owner rushed the dog to an emergency veterinarian, but the animal did not survive.

A spokesman for the Riverside County prosecutor's office said Jaurequi, who lives in Menifee, also faces an enhancement alleging he used a dangerous or deadly weapon.

Attempts to reach Jaurequi were not immediately successful.

We just got our little guy last March. He’s probably middle aged. He came from a family member in OK. He blended into our family and family of animals rather quickly.

Were the story about a child molester, rampaging pit bull or a burglar, yes indeed. But in the case of a small defenseless animal, no.

This bum should be processed into kibble and fed to chihuahuas at chihuahua rescue. Turnabout is fair play.

Gross cruelty to animals is not good either. No? You disagree with punishing it?

How does that logically follow? If mistreatment of innocent human life is a sin, it would seem more consistent to conclude in the opposite direction, that mistreatment of [all] innocent life is a sin.

Proverbs 12:10 -- "A righteous man regardeth the life of his beast: but the tender mercies of the wicked are cruel."

That is not the subject of this thread! You people are so predictable. It's not your cause is wrong, it's that you choose in introduce everywhere you find an opening.

And "we people" will do so until the holocaust against the unborn is history, sad, despicable history.

There may be some reading this thread who don't think twice about "a woman's right to choose", until confronted with the savaging of an innocent, helpless life, such as the cruel death this small dog experienced.

You illogically attempted to hijack a thread about a case of cruelty to an animal and make it an abortion thread. And you refuse to answer a simple straight forward question.

Who is “we”? This is FreeRepublic. “We” don’t excuse the murder of the unborn here.

"We"...Ok. Some of "we" [us]. How's that?

I was speaking of myself, since I at one point in my callous past life excused abortion under the dodge/excuse/lie "a woman's right to choose." But no longer

Got a mouse in your pocket?

Point taken.

You people

It's not that whacking dogs with golf clubs is not cruel..it is.

But it does irritate some like myself that we now have fairly new laws with serious prison time for folks who kill pets, drown unwanted puppies and all that...something no one paid a lot of attention to 20-40 years ago...honestly one could do about what they wanted to dispose of a pet though decent folks would have considered something more humane than this...but you could kill your pet for whatever reason just like sick livestock etc

now we live in a culture where we have literally killed over 50 million babies as nothing more than late contraception just in America alone and yet we obsess about animal rights and have in some cases what I consider to be draconian laws enforcing the rights of critters whilst unborn children have none and are fair game because they are considered the reproductive rights of women whose souls are inhabited by evil...an evil far worse than puppy killers in my opinion

so it does come down to that:

killing puppies with clubs...bad

killing babies...there is nothing worse

so yes...I do get tired of it...especially all the off with their heads yapping here

freepers are unusual about pets...it's a void thing..sorta like the forum...I understand...I have pets but I don't elevate their lives above humans...as a rule

Please, don’t say we can’t do anything about anything else because everyone doesn’t have abortion as their number one cause they’re fighting against.

Here is a good start: leveling the same punishment one gets for cruelly killing an innocent, stray, small, lovable dog as for partial birth dismemberment.

You can make it your last cause.

And yet we excuse the murder of the unborn.

Wow, you got to this one early with the extremely predictable “you don’t tolerate dogs being killed but you tolerate abortion” comment.

Most people I know are capable of holding more than one thought/dislike at a time, and can be verbally intolerant of one thing while not mentioning all things about which they are intolerant. You might learn something from them.

Can you imagine how annoying it would be for someone to bring up euthanizing dogs on every abortion thread?

Annoy us. (abortion is NOT euthanization)

So if someone clubbed to death a burglar, you would be OK with joking about that?

This is what amazes me about so many animal lovers, they seems to value the life of animals over that of a human.

This guy who killed the Chihuahua deserves to go to jail, but some of the responses here are way over the top.

Joking like crazy, until I could find the guy and buy him a beer.

I have a lot less tolerance for burglars than I do for innocent animals.

I'm kind of funny that way.

Of course. A burglar is a danger to a homeowner’s life and family. An escaped seven pound dog is not.

Another tired talking point hijacking a thread to talk about abortion. Quite pitiful really. Why are you so sad that people can no longer torment pets without doing some serious time? If you want to argue against people that are for abortion, go somewhere else, this isn’t the place.

Well, I still say that about three solid strokes with #3 wood, would get the job done on a burglar without denying him the opportunity to then serve 5-10 at Folsom.

A burglar is a danger to a homeowner’s life and family.

Now you are defining a burglar in terms of actions not previously presented and are assuming that the burglar is both robbing a home and doing so while people are inside.

Would you answer differ in the case of a burglar caught fleeing and posing no such threat?

The real point is the pet lovers always seem to overreact in these cases.
