This place gets reviews that range from raves to scowls.
I used to love this place in the early eighties.

I used to get this plate of korean ribs asian bbq beef and bbq fish with rice for like $5

The loco moco was great too.

I was just wondering if anybody else out there had eaten at this dive and what they thought of the place.

Millions of military have been served.

Is it left to Pearl Harbor or right to Waikiki? I don’t remember it, but I bet my husband does.

I lived in Halsey Terrace for a few years, about 1/2 mile from there. Great food, good prices. But I really miss the huli-huli chicken. Yum!

No Hotel Street, unless they changed what streets they hung out on.

We were at a stop when one of the guys on my husbands boat (it was a TWR 103ft boat) said, “see that girl? She's not a girl.” I did not believe him until we drove a little further and what I saw was obviously not a girl. Then on to the paid unladies street & then the gypsies. What an eye opener for a Midwestern girl.

There weren't many Mexican restaurants or canteenas on Oahu back then but there was a restaurant in Kaneohe which was excellent. They served real Mexican cuisine, steak and fish and not just tortillas and frioles. Local folk settled for Aippys' chile which was nothing more than ketchup and kidney beans with some sort of ground meat.....probably mongoose.

Byrons was out by the airport and the Pearl Harbor gate but if I traveled out that far, I usually went a little farther to the Pearl City Tavern.

As a poor UH student on the GI Bill, I had to settle for places around University and King like the Kuhio Grill or the Islanders stadium hot dogs down the street while watching a Friday night game.

Yeah, I avoided those places but trolled Kuhio st once just for giggles asking they were willing to do this or that.

They’d do anything imaginable.

Yes it was an eye opener for a midwest boy

I have been to the Pearl city Tavern.

It was excellent and a local hangout.
I had friends that lived in pearl city.
That’s where I used to go dirt biking.
Damn red volcanic mud! LOL

We used to BBQ and climb mango trees.
I like green mangos with a sprinkle of salt

I don’t remember. I know there were some yummy places, but cannot recall any in particular. North Shore had some cool little places.

Sitting here in Waipahu. I’m not much for loco moko but the kids like it. Just asked son and his fiancee, both of whom know a lot of places that qualify as dives or above, being starving music students at UH.

They never heard of it.
