Matthews to sexually-assaulted JFK intern: Shut up
Daily Caller ^ | 2.21.12 | Michelle Fields

Posted on 02/21/2012 7:00:07 AM PST by newheart

MSNBC host Chris Matthews told The Daily Caller that he would still consider John F. Kennedy a hero and still would have written his new book “Jack Kennedy: Elusive Hero” if his daughter had been one-time White House intern Mimi Alford.

Alford recently wrote “Once Upon a Secret: My Affair with President John F. Kennedy and Its Aftermath” about an affair she says started when she was 19 years old. In the book she claims Kennedy took her virginity and then asked her to perform oral sex on his aides.

TheDC caught up with Matthews on Monday at Ford’s Theatre in Washington, D.C., and asked if he would still revere Kennedy if his daughter, or perhaps a close friend, experienced what Alford had.

I do wonder why she wrote the book though,” Matthews said. “I don’t think many people are going to buy it. I don’t think it’ll sell at all.”

How is JFK a hero?

He got us into a disastrous fiasco in Cuba that got 5000 killed and ended in a miserable failure - this in his first 100 days in office.

He followed that up by sending 17,000 boys into Vietnam and we know how that brainstorm ended... he got whacked and his handpicked successor, LBJ continued his policy getting more than 60,000 American boys killed and more than a million asians killed for nothing... a monumental failure of unprecedented proportions...

All that while he was molesting girls in the Whitehouse...

Some hero.

The Kennedy’s are all scum.

“Jack Kennedy: Elusive Hero” ... Mimi Alford ... claims Kennedy took her virginity and then asked her to perform oral sex on his aides.

Good book title. Any heroism in the real JFK is elusive. The man was a liberal scum, who treated women like dirt and did a terrible job with almost everything that happened in his brief presidency. He was a slightly better person than Bill Clinton and a much better leader than Barack Obama, but that is not saying much.

We know that such attitudes are real, hard as it may be for use to believe. Just look at how Monica's parents rolled over on receiving the News about their hero, Bill Clinton, taking similar advantage of their darling daughter.

The Official Liberal Definition of a Hero:

1.) Must be involved in the sale and profit of controlled substances. (JFK’s family fortune came from his father’s rum-running business during prohabition. Bill Clinton was involved in cocaine smuggling while governor of Arkansas.)
2.) Must be a serial rapist or predator of young girls and women. (JFK and Bill Clinton)
3.) Must have numerous sexual affairs while still married. (JFK and Bill Clinton)
4.) Must be a closeted homosexual muslim that uses cocaine. (Barry Sotero)

He reduced the top marginal tax rates.

From 91% to 70%. 70% is still highway robbery - but it was a big step.

I find it amusing that the most popular recent President on the left reduced taxes, and the most popular recent President on the right reduced taxes.

Hmmmm. What did those two men have in common?

“How is JFK a hero?

He got us into a disastrous fiasco in Cuba that got 5000 killed “

That’s too kind. He CAUSED the Bay of Pigs fiasco. CIA said from the beginning the invasion was doomed without air cover. Kennedy said, “I promise you will have air cover”. CIA did not trust Kennedy and the agent in charge called Kennedy when training was complete and they were preparing to launch and got same answer, “You WILL have air cover”. It wasn’t until they were on the beach and dying Kennedy told the desperate insurgents, “Sorry, it isn’t politically expedient to involve US aircraft”.

“All that while he was molesting TEENAGE girls in the Whitehouse...”

A real scumbag. He RAPED that girl basically. So she didn’t struggle. He was the most powerful man in the world and her boss.

Let’s not forget either that PT-109 was lost to gross incompetence. He may have acted heroically after it was lost but I suspect that story is also manufactured. PT-109 was the only PT boat lost due to collision with the enemy in WWII.

Some hero.

The Kennedy’s are all scum.

I’ve said it before, any time a Kennedy dies the country becomes a better place.

I don't think it is too much of a stretch to assume the author was reading between the lines based on Matthews' dismissive assertion that he didn't really know why she bothered to write the book.

But that wasn't my real point anyway. Instead I was amused by the ever prescient Matthews arguing that her book (Amazon Best Seller rank: 41) would not sell, while his (Amazon Best Seller ranking: 995) supposedly would do better.

I recently learned that while my father was in the Army at this time, they were all told to grab their gear and live ammo and get on a plane. The flew around for several hours before they landed back at the same base. He didn’t know what was going on until later. The CO was instructed not to tell them anything while they were on the plane.

You’re right and I did. I also should have made it clear I was talking about air cover ON the beach which was promised to the insurgents up until they were actually on the beach. Kennedy sentenced those men to death and knew he was doing it when he did it.

“It’s one of the conundrums of having a hero like Kennedy.”

Find a more heroic hero, Chris.

What gives with this Matthews guy anyway? Why does he keep getting crushes on men--and very mediocre men at that?

There are heroic people in the world--men, women, and children--but John Kennedy was not one of them.

When I was a boy--7 or 8 years old--Tarzan was my hero. But when I became a man I put away childish things. Tarzan was fiction. So is the John Kennedy that Chris Matthews seems to idolize.

Matthews is stuck in a time warp. He and Clinton are typical of those who came of age in the “Kennedy Era.” Matthews joined Kennedy’s glamorous Peace Corps; Clinton followed a political career. They are still star struck, 50 years later, and can’t get over it.

Let’s not forget either that PT-109 was lost to gross incompetence.

I am as tired of the Kennedy hagiography as anyone, but none of his fellow PT commanders nor any serious historian was critical of Kennedy's tactics during the engagement in which PT-109 was lost. Running your engines at night in a PT boat causes bioilluminescence, which paints a great big target sign for any roaming Jap aircraft.

If you want to criticize anyone, why not the other PT commanders who failed to look for survivors after the collision, which was clearly indicated by flames from PT-109 and the loss of radio contact?

When Brigade 2506’s air instructors (Alabama ANG pilots based in Nicaragua) discovered that their air cover had been yanked, and how the men they had helped train were faring on the beach, they took off—without authorization from DC—to provide air support on their own.

Four of them were shot down, one apparently dying in a gun battle with Cuban ground forces. Their families weren’t told what had happened to them for decades.

In all fairness, the headline by Daily Caller is dishonest.

Chris Matthews did not in any way discourage the intern from speaking or sharing her story. And he called the facts horrific or some similar term. He did not deny them.

All he did was express his opinion that he did not know why she wrote the book and that he thought it wouldn’t sell.

I can’t stand Chris Matthews, personally, but fair is fair. I don’t respect dishonest, sensational headlines any more from Daily Caller than I do when they come from the left.

According to Tameichi Hara’s Wikipedia entry he was not personally involved in the sinking of PT-109 and would have had no first hand knowledge of the incident. He was certainly in no position to know JFK as a commander or naval officer.

Towards the end of the War, he did, however, train young men to fight dressed as women and children, so he would know about “somewhat less than heroic”.

Per his book, he was on one of the destroyers accompanying the Amagiri, and witnessed PT-109 motoring right into the Amagiri’s path. He also wrote his memoirs in the late 1950s, before Kennedy was a major figure, so he had no axe to grind about the incident.

He is apparently alone in claiming that PT-109 was moving. It was, by all accounts a moonless night. When you are in a moving ship it is difficult to judge the course or speed of another ship, only its course or speed relative to your own.

I would be surprised if he saw a PT boat that he did not warn the other destroyer. Ramming a PT boat could result in an explosion of its ordnance. In the event the destroyers screw was damaged.

Anyway, the accusation against Kennedy is usually that he was idling and allowed himself to be run over. Depending on the terrain features of the local islands, one ship can have a distinct advantage in detecting another, if one is hidden in the background of the islands and the other is silhouetted against the Milky Way, for instance.

The commander of the other destroyer may have had a better view of the collision than either of the participants.
