A question for NASCAR fans
Tampa Bay Times ^ | 2/26/12 | GeorgiaDawg32

In an article in the Tampa Bay Times, the UAW made a point that 31 of 43 cars in the race today are made in Detroit (Their intent is to mock Mittens, which, on its face, isn't difficult to do).

Here is the quote: "The union says 31 of 43 cars racing tomorrow are made by one America's big three auto makers."

Now, as stupid as this statement is, my question is this. Let's assume for one minute these race cars were made in Detroit, what, exactly, would they look like? If they were made to look like the existing cars, what would be wrong with them, I mean, besides missing motor mounts, loose bolts etc.

Let your imaginations run.....

As far as I know all the cars are hand built in shops throughout the south.

Of course, most of these cars are built in the shadow of the Charlotte Motor Speedway near Concord NC with non union highly motivated and highly skilled pit mechanic and pit teams.

The only thing Detroit could make today could race in the Berkeley 30: The Volt NASCAR race. Gentlemen, plug in your batteries. And will the crowd please shut up so we can hear if these damned things are even running yet?

That would be today’s Detroit race.

That’s correct, thus the stupidity of the unions’ statement.

The only similarity that any of the cars have to the crap that comes out of Detroit is the name badge, four wheels and tires, a hood and a trunk. Not to mention everything about them is now designed built and essentially manufactured in Moorseville, NC, or somewhere close to it.

The only thing that’s standard - at least in the division I know - is the roof. Everything else is fabricated. Probably the same for these Cup guys...

I am still ticked at the Unions, Obama and the Democrats (I know, all synonymous) for closing down Saturn because Saturn was in a right to work state.

If you look around at plant closings, a disproportionate number are in “Right to Work” States. The Union is getting their revenge, before they finally die and take the nation with them.

BS.There is no factory built race car. Since Ms Union, refers to the big 3, I assume the claim that Toyota is not built in the US is false. They are. Most parts in the big three aren't made in the US. More union lies.

The closest these race car will come to Detroit is when they haul them up to Michigan International Speedway in June and August in the back of some haulers.

Let's assume for one minute these race cars were made in Detroit, what, exactly, would they look like? If they were made to look like the existing cars, what would be wrong with them . . . . . .

Well, for starters, they wouldn't have the right engines in them capable of producing 80 bazillion horsepower, nor would they have ANY of the protective equipment such as the roll cage and the HANS device. They also wouldn't have the right tires, right seat, right fuel tank, right windshield, right paint color or the right cooling system.

However, on the bright side, they WOULD have the correct union labels adorning every piece of hardware in the car . . . . . . . . !

(And, they would have a sleeping union "worker" in the back of EVERY car shipped from Detroit!)

Only a Union thug would say something like that, he should do some research.

NASCAR is to “stock cars” as silicone is to actresses.

I’m somewhat surprised that some Green group hasn’t yet organized an alternative fuels car race of some kind.

It is a NASCAR rule that race cars have to be built in America. Toyotas qualify as American built. The media is naive, as always. The 31 cars they speak of are representatives of the big three auto makers headquartered in Detroit.

Most of what is built in Detroit, or southern Michigan by the big three are their pick up trucks. The cars seen on the track are medium and full sized models 'mostly' made in other parts of the US, Canada or Mexico.

Sense there is only one car company left in America that is American and not owned by the government then I guess they would look like fords. GM is government owned and Dodge is
as foreign as Toyota.

Btw, I’m pulling for the Fords. Doubt Obama is today.

1. Biffle #16
2. Kennseth #17
3. Edwards #99

Or any of the 13 Fords.

I do know that any of their union-made transmissions wouldn’t last for even half a race.

“I’m somewhat surprised that some Green group hasn’t yet organized an alternative fuels car race of some kind.”

It’d have to be a real short distance (the Duracell 13.1) or a real long time one, what with eight-hour refueling stops to recharge the batteries.

That could make a good comedy film.
