Angels Flight fares double to 50 cents

Starting on Monday, the fare is going up from 25 cents to 50 cents. But Metro pass holders and those who purchase commuter books will receive discounts.

The fare increase is needed to help cover the line's operating costs. Until now, Angels Flight has relied on donations to make up the difference.

If you're in L.A. you should visit Angel's Flight. Maybe snap a few pics. If you ride, you will find that it is a VERY short trip.

OK, now I see no problem with this

occasionally a price increase is just a price increase...

50 cents is still well below what i would expect to pay

Not too much to pay for a fun ride on a genuine treasure of L.A. history.

I disagree. It was broken for 3 years and people just walked up that hill, especially the Pershing Square office drones. It’s made for tourists. Might as well pay the 50 cents which is the cost for the Dash bus that back in 2007 was 25 cents and there are Dash buses that go up the hill not from Hill St but from 5th.

I first heard of Angel's Flight from the Michael Connelly book of the same name.

He's one of my favorites!!

It’s pretty much just off of old downtown L.A. - if you didn’t have business in the 6th and Main vicinity, you’d never know it exists.

That's not a funicular..

This is a funicular:

Hell the steps just to get to Pittsburghs funicular are more than the entire hill that wussy LA funicular covers.

I didn’t know it was still in existence. It was shown in a lot of old movies and tv-shows, generally of pre-1960 vintage. Films like “The Indestructable Man” (1955), and I also recall an early-50s episode of “Boston Blackie.” Several others, but I can’t really remember offhand.

>>hmm....I lived in the LA area in the 1980’s and don’t remember this<<

It was down a LONG time. Then it was back on (I rode it a few times in the late 90s), then the 2 cars crashed into each other and killed someone and it was down again for a LONG time.

Interestingly, when I hear/read “Angel’s Flight” I think of the Levi extra wide bells with tight uppers from the 70s... (am I dating myself?)

I TRIED to take the Duquesne Incline when I first got to the ‘Burgh. I paid, got in, looked up, then told the ticket guy the next person gets a free trip.

It looked like it was 90 degree from inside and I have a terrible fear of heights.

The Duquesne Incline (one I posted pic of)is actually pretty tame with a 58% angle... The Monogahela Incline (not that far from the Duquesne) which isn’t as pretty to look at, the cars aren’t the pretty red caboose looking but more of a creame boxcar shape, actually has the steepest angle of any incline in the US at a whopping 78% grade.

After wimping out on the Duquesne (pronounced close to “dukaine” for those playing at home — Pittsberghers LOVE to watch tourists try to figure it out), there was NO WAY I was going to try the Monogahela — I almost fainted just looking at it from the street.

Great memories of the ‘Burgh — I used to go to Station Square and take the waterwheel ferry across to the new stadium to watch the Steelers games. My wife and I discovered a great restaurant a little upriver of Station Square where they had the greatest Italian food!

And of course, the view after you exit the Fort Pitt Tunnel towards the city has to be one of the most magnificent anywhere.

There is a lot to miss about Pittsburgh. And I was only there for a couple of years. Displaced Pittsburghers must be regularly bummed.
