Two sons of US property mogul Donald Trump have come under fire after pictures emerged of them posing with the corpses of African animals during a hunting trip.

Donald Junior and Eric Trump spent a week in the Zimbabwean bush in August 2010, and are pictured standing next to trophy kills of a Cape buffalo, a waterbuck, a leopard, a civet cat, a crocodile and a kudu.

Some animals are more equal than others.

The wildlife of Africa was much better off when hunting was acceptable. It made the wildlife a valuable natural resource. Now the indigenous populations consider wildlife to be pests.

In the days of wealthy people doing African safaris, you would have the hunter having to pay big bucks to the African government for licenses to shoot particular animals. He would spend a few weeks wandering the bush, employing a bunch of Africans to act as porters for the gear, cooking and cleaning up the camp, etc. It would make the wildlife a big source of income, and as you said, created an incentive to want them around.

Yes, over my lifetime I have watched the line between humans and animals become almost non-existent. It’s not to our benefit.

Of course he's right.

I have a friend who has gone on several hunts to Africa, month long hunts. Very, very expensive but all the animals killed were given to poor villages.

L

Following each trip he would present a slide show presentation for the kids at the local school to show them exactly what the trip entailed and the living conditions of the villagers. Kinda like a National Geographic special, edited and hosted by a down to earth conservative without all the bleeding heart libtards......

The other animals are no big deal, but leopards are rare.

Leopards are not rare in Africa. In many areas they are pests. They are very adaptable to civilization and are not endangered. They need to be hunted to keep the numbers down.

The real threat to leopards is that they will be put on the endangered list, with the usual results that the local poachers will hunt them remorsely, as they will no longer have local economic value.

No. Hunters do not go out on their own. They have trained guides who know the rules.

PS If PETA had their way all animals would be endangered and there would be open season on any who opposed them.

Sir, if that’s you, then I’m green with envy. I even own a .458 Win Mag but I’m afraid it’s all fantasy these days...

I hope and pray that every animal rights group on the planet plagues these two unmercifully to the end of time! There is absolutely NO logic, NO rationale for this activity. These two are scum and should be excluded from anything decent!

I didn’t know there were too many elephants. What about taking one herd and putting it somewhere else?

Why can’t I be emotional? I’m a girl! :) And I like elephants and big colorful wild cats.

No problem with hunting per se, but I am just fond of certain animals and don’t get happy over shooting them.

There is a HUGE spectrum between PETA and the Japanese powdering bits of endangered species for sexual prowess teas. I’m in between.

Well, now that the Manager of Stridency, Department of Dogmatic Dogma has weighed in with the Ultimate Unquestionable Truth, we can all move on to another thread...

I am certainly no liberal and I know I will piss a lot of people off with this statement, but I don’t believe hunting is a “sport” unless the hunted and the hunters have the same weapons and an equal opportunity to prevail. If they want to really “hunt” they should join the Army or Marines.

Trump’s sons may be jerks, but I never realized there were so many PeTA members here at FR.

I’m not sure either. I view it as a way to get food. Depends on your definition of “sport”, I guess.

But applying your quaint logic to lots of other “sports” would (for example) make for an interesting game of golf (every third ball or so explodes, killing the golfer?)

FRegards

It not me - I think it is the shorter of the two brothers. I pulled it from a Google Images search.

I'm not a big game hunter, although these guys have a hard time around my house -

I tend to use a little smaller caliber than you though - ;)

Pray tell, exactly how would you go about moving an entire HERD of elephants against their will? You do realize that a Bull Elephant weighs in excess of 2.5 TONS, don't you? And that's just one animal.

They're incredibly dangerous beasts and will kill a human without a seconds thought. And a single herd of them can devastate the crops an entire village of human beings depend on for their survival.

Imagine if you will a herd of 30 or so rabbits, each one weighing in excess of 2,000 pounds intent on stripping you of your crops and there's absolutely NO way of fencing them out.

Still think they're harmless and cute?
