I have an 03 Honda Accord EX with about 155K miles on it which I've purchased recently which has had no problems until this morning: it will miss and then seems to go into a protect mode of some sort and will not run over 2500 rpm until I turn the key off and on again, then it's good for another mile or so until it does it again.
Has anybody else ever seen or heard of this problem? It may actually be a problem with the on-board computer, you'd think if it was a plug or bad gas it would keep on missing and not be the sort of intermittent thing I'm seeing.
Sounds like a computer thing. Does it have a Computer control box? Take it to someone who can hook it up to a reader and go from there.

Cars these days have about a million sensors on em. It is prolly one of those.
Best thing to do is get your hands on a scanner and read what the computer says is wrong.
Yep! You need the error code readings. If you don’t have a diagnostic tool take it to AutoZone or similar place and they will read the codes for free.
My wife’s Civic EX had the same problem. Intermittent misfire. Had to change the coils on top of the cylinders.
You should buy a volt. You won’t have the 2500 rpm problem. /s>
We have an 03 Odyssey. The FIRST time we lost the transmission it went into a failure mode much like this. The computer determined we had a problem, blinked the D symbol at us indicating the problem, and let us move on at low RPM. I guess the idea is you get into a failure mode it can manage - it is still able to move for you to drive DIRECTLY to a dealer, do not pass go, pay 2000 dollars :-(

Get a Harborfreight code scanner plug it in and find out what’s wrong with it. I love cars with computers—they tell you what wrong. All you have to do is ask them.
I had a Dodge Caravan start missing once. I got home, plugged in the scanner and it said throttle position sensor. I opened the hood, unplugged the TPS and plugged it back in. Voila!
Really, computers are great. A lot of automotive stores will scan the computers for free.
Is that the dreaded error code 19?
I had an ‘89 Hinda that did something similar - started wide spaced and random and deteriorated. Turned out to be the throttle position sensor (basically a rheostat) that was worn.
Check for a transmission recall. Right around that time there were transmission problems, I’m not sure if it extended to 2003 models. Mine is on it’s THIRD transmission.

Put 254,000 on my 1993 Civic LX. For the first 240,000 or so got 37 mpg on every tank. FANTASTIC car. Yes, I drive a Honda now. 2010 Accord.
Good for you if you have good a good experience with honda. I only give a manufacturer ONE chance to make a good impression, and honda has most definitly NOT done it.
All you have to do is google honda accord/odesssy transmission problems and you will find a lot of people in a similar position that I am in.

Whatever, My 1992 Accord EX has 270,000 on it and I replace the Tranny fluid every 30,000 or so. It makes a huge difference with the vacuum and all. Replaced the blower motor, timing belt and hoses. Best little car ever.
I live in Japan , and both my wife and my daughter own Hondas . We owned an Odyssey for a time when living in the States some years ago . ZERO problems . My Japanese brother-in-law’s little Honda window van just died with 350,000 miles on it . Never had a major problem with it . What do you think he bought to replace it ? Yep - another Honda .
I bought mine used here in the states. A 1992 Accord EX is Gold here. I wound it up on I-40 in TN against a Grand-Am about 4 years ago. She maxed out about 125mph. The Grand Am couldn’t keep up. It was kinda funny as that Pontiac was quite new, I would guess a 2003 or better.
