It seems a box office phenomenon is happening right now.
"The Hunger Games", from previews, seems to be setting all sorts of records this weekend.
Very captivating camera work, and a sort of 'blade runner' sort of theme it would seem.
SPOILER ALERT!! kind of...
We are all very into the books right now and I have just finished reading book 2 (can’t wait to get the last one!) There is no bad language, no smut, no sex HOWEVER there is some discussion about nudity and the two main characters sleep together for comfort (sleep only)
The main concern for the books is the violence. The children are pitted against each other to fight to the death. And it gets pretty gory. The story is on the dark side, not a light, uplifting story at all. But very interesting, very thought provoking. My 3rd son is dyslexic and is not that fond of ready, he reads VERY slowly. But he can’t put the book down.

The wife and I are going to go during the day this week. Looks good.
I read The Hunger Games and found it tolerable, but not good enough to make me pursue the other parts of the trilogy that were sitting in my Kindle. Basically I considered it silly. Maybe because it was written on a sixth grade level (graduate school for those in the government system) the book seemed kind of flat. It lacked the character, background and plot development I usually complain about.
I actually found the movie much better than the book. The movie created the atmosphere that supported the story. The main problem was that, as usual, Hollywood sanitized the characters. It’s like real people make us too uncomfortable; we have to give them the “palm beach look” while they are living in apocalyptic squalor. Believe me, I lived in District 12 and the people there didn’t look like MTV. Jennifer Lawrence was too old and too fit for her character. She did a good job as the heroine, but she didn’t bring the emotional wallop of her performance in Winters Bone. Her partner in the games seemed more like her little brother than a serious romantic contender.
The movie did begin to drag in the last hour. Twenty minutes of scenery and dramatic pauses could have been cut or better yet, devoted to character development. Obviously you can bet on a body count of at least 23 participants; nevertheless the gore was handled tastefully.
I give it four stars. With all the schlock that comes out of Hollywood, anything that doesn’t send you reaching for the barf-bag, running for the fire-exit, or feeling you need a bath gets two stars. Hollywood has trouble with apocalyptic movies these days. They seem to close to reality.
The movie is PG13. It seems that most of the junior and senior high school kids in our church have read the trilogy and so have most of the parents. It is being recommended because of its story line of seeking freedom from an opppressive government, or perhaps I should say a dictitorial government. A friend at church loaned me the trilogy and I read through it in less than 2 weeks. It is also semi-science fictionish. Well written and flows nicely. Definitely not the type of book the current leftist oriented school and college teachers want their students to be exposed to. It might make them begin to think for themselves and resist their socialist indoctrination.

Twice? I have been trying to take my wife and three kids (4th child too young) since it began on Friday and every show has been sold out. How on Earth did you get to see it twice? You are so lucky. This is a movie I can’t wait to see and neither can the family. Between everyone wanting to see it and the weather, EVERYONE is going to this movie. Hopefully tomorrow we will have better luck in seeing it.

Are you kidding? 2012 is one of the funniest movies EVER. Except for Skyline which was even funnier...
No lefty ideology? Hmmm, maybe that’s why there was a hand-wringing article about whether children should see a movie where children kill other children. Good golly, I don’t think anyone cared when it was Harry Potter doing it.

Provided the budget can support, look for an IMAX showing nearby. It is a little more expensive, but that may cut the crowd when running side by side with regular prints. Also, go on line and use a ticketing service (like Fandango) for that location, if possible, and book your tickets in advance.
I saw it Friday afternoon. I really liked movie. I haven’t
read the book, but the movie seems ok for older teens.
Read the books, saw the movie. I highly recommend them. No left wing propaganda. If anything, it shows how easy is it for a dictatorial government to oppress it’s people.

I would say not younger than 13..it is an intense series. No profanity or sexuality but violent.
