How much did Palin hurt our chances by not running ?

Posted on 03/26/2012 9:12:25 PM PDT by se_ohio_young_conservative

Obviously we will never know for sure. But how different would this race be right now in your opinion ? What would it look like ?

Would she have been just another piece in the "not romney" revolving door or would she have broke through ?

Would she have won the nomination ? and then the election ?

I honestly think Palin not running was the most significant event of the primary campaign to date.

Well .. he’s not a bum .. when you consider he has the most profitable state in the Union .. and a state that’s one of the biggest in the Union; that’s a pretty good accomplishment.

He’s a spectacular Governor .. and who knows .. in 4 years he could make a better run.

I was betting on him too .. in fact I wanted Rick & Rick. A Governor and a former Senator .. makes a great team. They are both Christians - pro-life - that’s a great combination.

So, don’t be so willing to run Rick into the ground.

As for Mike Pence .. after he’s served as Governor, he’ll have just the right experience to be a presidential candidate. I really like him too.

I’m sorry Palin didn’t run too. I really wanted to see her take on the “elites” and put them in their place.

Not much, if at all.

Obviously we will never know for sure. But how different would this race be right now in your opinion ? What would it look like?

She'd be about where Santorum is, maybe a bit less. She would have taken Santorum out of the running quite a while back. Would that have been good? I guess it depends on your views on Santorum.

Would she have been just another piece in the "not romney" revolving door or would she have broke through?

"Not Romney". I have never been convinced that she has broad appeal in the party, much less across the spectrum.

Would she have won the nomination?

Maybe. Doubtful.

and then the election?

Pretty sure the answer is "no".

Newt’s remarks (on Hannity & as reported by Beckel today) about shortening the time the Dems have to react to and stage a campaign against the eventual winner only add to the environment necessary to inject Palin into the mix in August. Too many creds establish her as the victor in the general—drill, baby, drill, revealing the death-panel philosophy, earlier defeats of crony capitalism, battles of right over might (including those in the GOP), troop-support, clear social/moral principles. She’s got it all—including the disdain of the elite media.

Sarah could have run, and saved the country by a landslide in 2012.

The exact same thing goes for Bolton in the last election.

If anything hurt, it was conservatives holding off on picking any other conservative candidate they could support, waiting because they “knew” Sarah Palin was going to get in the race.

Imagine if, back in March of 2011, 60-80% of the conservatives had decided to back Newt Gingrich — instead of waiting until December of 2011.

He’d have raised millions of dollars during the preparation phase. He’d have been able to set up actual organizations in all 50 states. He wouldn’t have lost his campaign staffers to Rick Perry.

In fact, Rick Perry would have never entered the race, because there would have been no need of a “conservative alternative to Mitt Romney”. That means the millions Perry could raise would have been raised for Newt Gingrich, when Perry endorsed him.

But instead, when Newt Gingrich joined the race, he was soundly ridiculed. He was denounced as a RINO, dismissed for his liberal positions on global warming, TARP, and the like. He was rejected as a conservative, and ignored as a candidate. He wasn’t given the time of day, and conservatives here and elsewhere treated him as the guy who could debate but wasn’t presidential material.

That all changed after Sarah Palin announced she wasn’t running, after Cain destructed and dropped out. But by then it apparently was too late — he was unable to gain traction for more than a month or so, he didn’t have the organization to get on the ballot in the state he lived in, and he didn’t have the money to compete on the airwaves, even in Iowa, where Santorum was able to beat him as was Romney.

Would Gingrich have gotten support back in March of 2011, if so many conservatives weren’t waiting for the assumed entrance of Sarah Palin? I don’t know, but from the past three months here at FR it appears Gingrich was the perfect conservative candidate, so what other reason could there be that a candidate who had 60% FR support 3 months ago couldn’t even scrape up a decent ping list when he started his run?

Palin didn't hurt our chances by not running. She didn't owe it to us to run. It's her life. I wish she had run, but you've framed your question in a way that accuses her of doing harm.

Why do you post in such victimized terms?

I was very devastated she didn’t run and I know she would have taken it. Still not over it. :(

It makes me sick that we have the most beatable incumbent in my lifetime and the GOP ends up fielding a bunch of wienies.

Palin would have gotten a lot more grass root support than any of the current crop.

Now it looks like Willard will get the nod and he turns the stomach of true conservatives more than any of them. It’s almost like the establishment GOP wants to lose.

At this point, it`s inconsequential. The Romney machine, aided by the 0bama press, would`ve ground her into the dirt like everyone else. She was damaged goods from the start, so her chances would`ve been miniscule at best anyway.

Compared to this bumbling foursome, yes, Mitch Daniels would`ve been a great candidate. Of course, image-conscious America wouldn`t be able to get past the balding short guy thing, though.

“Romney Smear machine would have smeared her to.”

It’s would’ve been even worse. The smear machine of Romney combined with the GOP establishment would’ve treated her worse than the libs did in ‘08. She kicked corrupt GOP ass in Alaska and would do the same in DC; they wouldn’t want to deal with that.

I’m just very afraid of what 4 more years of Obama will do to this country.

I don’t think he’ll declare martial law or anything totally out-there like that. But he’s been doing a really crappy job so far and he’s made it pretty clear that he intends to do “even more!” with no re-election hanging over his head.

He’s entirely responsible for letting the Middle East fall apart on his watch. He’ attempted one un-constitutional power grab after another.

And the very worst problem with Obama is the way the media covers for him. That part of the “plan” is still working.

I think that even if he did something like declare martial law the NY Times, et al. would say that was just fine.

So no, Rick Perry isn’t really a bum and nobody HAS to run for President.

But I’m very afraid the Republican habit of Mr. Next-in-line could be a very bad thing again this time.

Governor Palin read the cards right. She learned from first hand experience how powerful the GOP-e really is when they maneuvered McCain into taking a dive. She almost spoiled their plot with her tremendous popularity and that is why they've been on a mission of personal destruction against her not only to punish but to reassure she doesn't surface to the top in 2012.

Governor Palin, along with others with acute abilities to interpret the political atmosphere have concluded that the GOP-e is preparing the environment to take another dive. The GOP-e will run a winning campaign, a winning campaign for Obama not the GOP.

Their mission is to destroy Conservatism!!!
