Economic Collapse and Political Instability Got You Down?
Open Source Survival site ^ | June 3, 2012 | Ronin Gael

The drumbeat quickens. Economic titans from Robert Zoellick, head of the World Bank, to George Soros….the beast that broke the Bank of England…..are saying the run through 2012 will be a repeat of 2008 only much worse.

I won’t repeat what got us here. The history and the how are available on both this website and hundreds of others. Whether the working of a divine plan or the mere machinations of evil men, the world’s economic order is about to fold. We are in the mother of all bubbles. It is a toxic mix of fiat currency, inflated asset values, interlocking derivatives of junk bonds and now a wobbly European Union that are stacked like dominoes ready to fall. Even China is said to be about to pay the piper for a decade of manipulated currency, central planning, and predatory foreign trade that subsidized it.

It is a burning house with gasoline in the basement…..just one spark in the wrong place will set it off. Could be Greece; Could be a war in Syria or Iran; Could be a bad day at JP Morgan Chase. The list is endless.

It seems overwhelming. Enough to wear down even the strongest among us if we let it. Don’t. None of us can save the world, but we can save our little corners of it. Resolve to stand fast and hold what is dear to you.

The Real Risk: Your Complacency. You may still have a job. The tap water still runs. The lights still come one. The grocery shelves are still full. The banks still open. The doctors and hospitals are still there. Junior has his little league game. Sissy her pool party. Mom has her girls night out. ESPN is still broadcasting 24×7. With the exception of ESPN, it has been this way your whole life and probably your parents’ lives and maybe even your grandparents’ lives.

It is about to end. Be ready to deal with it or watch your family suffer and maybe even die. There is no more important thing than this right now. All your resources should be harnessed toward being self sufficient.

A reminder to us all that the time is short. The author gives a pre-catastrophe checklist on what we should be working on if we expect to see the other side of chaos with all our parts and pieces in place.

Take 5 minutes and run through the "should be doing" list and see where your gaps are.

Still time in most areas to try some backyard gardening, buy some backyard chickens, reach out and meet the new neighbors, etc.

Freepers must survive and thrive you know to inherit the earth.

Wouldn't that be keen!

What’s got me worried is fear of bank runs in the USA. Anyone here who keeps zero money in banks because of it? Would a good money market fund of all Federal gov’t securities be better? Like what Fidelity and Vanguard have?

We switched to a credit union. They mostly avoid toxic loans and I don’t think any of them have bailout cash or the current mandates to buy government debt. The money is safer, but you’re still writing checks for everything.

Economic collapse, yes. But not political instability. I love political instability. Every night I have pleasant dreams of a crowd carrying pitchforks descending on the White House.

All account have minimums spare cash in safety boxes - nor banks or metal or - and this is a good investment - weapons.
If things really do get so bad then you can barter with weapons, use them to hunt, or kill the people who come to steal them from you.
And they will always be worth something, especially the high end, well made weapons...

Another thought inspired by Dave Ramsey: If you have cash, pay off all your debts. If you own your home free and clear, calamities with derivatives, government mandates with home loans and bank failures don’t matter as much. Pay off all credit cards and loans, and you can live off less money later.

Took my kid to a swim meet today. Saw thousands of families cheering their little ones on. Sadly, I would guess maybe 10 off us in the crowd knew what was about to happen and 3 of the 10 are truly prepared. I ain’t one of them, but I am getting there quickly.

Something to thing about buying, plus 2” couplings, 2” pipe segements, and a mallet.

Cap it with a well pump, and you have half the problems of the SHTF solved. Might want to buy an extra set if forced to bug out.

"Economic Collapse and Political Instability Got You Down?"

Not really. Every now and then, the trash is taken out. [Not referring to the poor there.]

"Whether the working of a divine plan or the mere machinations of evil men,..."

Both. They bring it on themselves.

"...the world’s economic order is about to fold."

It will probably invert.

I hope I am wrong and somehow the world’s economy does not crash and burns, but face it the piper will have to be paid! We might not fall as far or as hard as many countries, but I believe a fall of some kind is inevitable.

You either prepare and stand on your own beholden to no one or you become dependent on others to provide your basic needs and become thier‘serf’. Me I don’t want to be beholden to anyone for providing what is needed for me and mine. I certainly don’t want to have to kiss some ‘gubberment’ third class bureaucratic to try and coax some help from them, I don’t want some ‘jack booted’ thug herding me in line and telling me where to stand, sit, eat or sleep. And last but not least I don’t want to be shut up in with a bunch of ‘zombies’ and have to worry about not only trying to get basic necessities but having to fight to keep what I manage to get.

Now anyone thinking that prepping is foolish ask you what’s easier telling your children and loved ones why you prepared or explaining to them why you didn’t?

But if any provide not for his own, and especially for those of his own house, he has denied the faith, and is worse than an unbeliever. 1 Timothy 5:8

But then someone has to stand on the bridge waiting for FEMA to bring them a bottle of water, an MRE and a warm blanket so as to provide the Network Anchors their background ‘Money Shot’. I wonder how that will workout for them?

Face it we’ve kicked the financial can so far down the road that we are running out of road and the can which was once the size of a soda can is now the size of an oil drum (Try kicking that!)

For those who are just starting or are old hands at prepping you may find my Preparedness Manual helpfull. You can download it at:

http://tomeaker.com/kart/Preparedness1j.pdf

NOTE! THIS IS A FREE DOWNLOAD. I DO NOT MAKE ONE CENT OFF MY PREPAREDNESS MANUAL!

For those of you who haven’t started already it’s time to prepare almost past time maybe. You needed to be stocking up on food guns, ammo, basic household supplies like soap, papergoods, cleaning supplies, good sturdy clothes including extra socks, underwear and extra shoes and boots, a extra couple changes of oil and filters for your car, tools, things you buy everyday start buying two and put one up.

As the LDS say “When the emergency is upon us the time for preparedness has past.”

Or as the bible says: A prudent man sees danger and takes refuge, but the simple keep going and suffer for it.
NIV Proverbs 22:3

Lastly this for the doubters and the scoffers.

“There is no greater disaster than to underestimate danger.

Underestimation can be fatal.”

By the way you will find both God and Jesus mentioned in my Manual.

I have a question. If the “zombies” are at my door and I shoot them, after a while won’t it stink pretty bad? Seriously, what are the plans for getting rid of the dead bodies?

As for growing a garden, I got tomatoes, green beans, cucumbers, squash, okra and purple hull peas. All but the okra and tomatoes have about stopped producing. And the tomatoes won’t be producing very much longer. It’s already too hot in Texas and it’s killing the garden.

You get a well point. What do you do with it? I’m serious.

The advantage usually goes to the south for growing vegetables. The key is to buy tons of canning jars and preserve as much of your harvest as you can for a rainy day or inclimate growing season like you are experiencing now.

Our family has the goal of having enough preserved to go without the garden for an entire year. We are not yet close, but might get there this fall if the current weather holds out in the Northwest.

A well point is driven into the ground using a sledge hammer if you have to and soft soils. Usually a small drill rig is used. Add more steel pipe as you go deeper until you hit water. Then flush the dirt inside the pipe out and you can access ground water. I think a hand pump at the surface can only pull water up from about 32 feet deep. A submersible pump (electric) is needed for deeper (power!!??).
