"A typed radio message announced the havoc wreaked on the town of Lidice in retribution for the assassination of Heydrich.
On the day prior to the destruction of Lidice, Hitler issued the following warning: 'Nothing will prevent me from expelling millions of Czechs if they are not prepared for a peaceful life together.'
The massacre at Lidice sent a clear message to anyone thinking about opposing the Nazi regime.

PARAMARIBO, Dutch Guiana, June 23 - Thirty six members of the crew of a torpedoed Norwegian tanker landed here today from a lifeboat after refusing to go ashore at Devil's Island, French Guiana, and accept internment in the Vichy controlled colony, the Aneta Dutch Indies News Agency said today.
The survivors reached Devil's Island after a week at sea in the lifeboat. When the French authorities gave them the choice of accepting internment or continuing the voyage in their frail craft they decided to put to sea.
