June 24, 1942:

"A typed radio message announced the havoc wreaked on the town of Lidice in retribution for the assassination of Heydrich.
On the day prior to the destruction of Lidice, Hitler issued the following warning:

The massacre at Lidice sent a clear message to anyone thinking about opposing the Nazi regime.
This poster was created by the U.S. Office of War Information."

36 Pass Up Devils Island

PARAMARIBO, Dutch Guiana, June 23 - Thirty six members of the crew of a torpedoed Norwegian tanker landed here today from a lifeboat after refusing to go ashore at Devil's Island, French Guiana, and accept internment in the Vichy controlled colony, the Aneta Dutch Indies News Agency said today.

The survivors reached Devil's Island after a week at sea in the lifeboat. When the French authorities gave them the choice of accepting internment or continuing the voyage in their frail craft they decided to put to sea.

Difficult to say what went on here. If you were a french administrator, the Nazis were probably threatening family back home. Believing the best, would hope the french provisioned them and suggested they go on for everyones good.

But did they shake on it?

Molotoff had his other hand behind his back...with his fingers crossed.
