I am tired of getting yanked by the airlines. This is a Chat I had with Allegiant Air.

Posted on 07/10/2012 5:17:00 PM PDT by jwsea55

> This is a chat I just had with Allegiant Air. They showed that I had seat 32E but on their online seat assignment chart only shows 30 rows. In order to have any baggage, I had to pay $30. The thing about the charge was they didn't put that in until the very last step in booking confirmation. Why don't they just put their damn fares at they want to charge rather than screwing with us. Below is my chat.

Please wait, an agent will be with you shortly. Your chat session has started..

Cheryl: Thank you for contacting Allegiant Travel. My name is Cheryl. Thank you for your patience, as I may be assisting other customers.

How may I assist you today?

me: hi

> me: i have an unassigned seat, can i do online checkin [This is a recent change by Allegiant]

Cheryl: Thank you. We offer an advance check in option online. This can be done from the Check In tab. It can only be completed within 24 hours of travel. If your seat was not assigned in advance, a seat will be assigned to you at random for free. Please make sure to enter the name exactly as it appears on your itinerary. To avoid any issues, I suggest that you use capital letters. If you are unable to print out your boarding pass, please check in at the ticket counter two hours prior to your flight time.

> me: it says i have seat 32e...it only has 30 rows

Cheryl: That is your seat assignment . They are booked by the airport agents. Yes there are enough rows.

> me: so if that seat sucks as much as it does, you are now expecting me to pay for an upgrade????????

Cheryl: If you want to change the seating yes there is a fee.

> me: i already feel like i have been yanked by you guys charging me for carry-on baggage. are you guys trying to piss people off to no end?

Cheryl: You do not have to change the seat….

> me: that seat really sucks....i already don't like dealing with the whole TSA crap and tend to avoid flying because of that. could you forward this off to your superior(s). i know the people i am going up to work for were pissed to hear that there is a mandatory charge for carry-on.

Cheryl: Yes I will forward your concern.lIs there anything else I can help you with today?

> me: no...just know that this has me pissed...

Cheryl: Thank you for contacting Allegiant Travel. Have a great day.

It wouldn’t have killed them to tell you that.”

The person he was having a chat with probably didn’t have a clue about the plane’s configuration or even if the front of the plane arrived the same time as the back.

even if the front of the plane arrived the same time as the back.

Well now, that's just a plain fact. F'rinstance, when there's a crash, the pilots arrive at the scene before the back seat passengers do.

PEOPLE EXPRESS!!!!

Ah, yes, flew that from Newark to Jax regularly in the mid 1980s.

You paid the fare on board in cash—$ 59 round trip!—once had a special at $ 29.00 round trip.

My boss couldn’t believe my expense reports!!!

No seat assignments. Got to deplane in the rear as well as the front—saved a lot of time.

It really became too successful. Planes became full. When passengers started bring live chickens on board in FL, it was over for me.

It was fun while it lasted.

Everyone dressed like they were going to church, smoking was okay and there were cocktails to be had if there was a delay......it was more civilized.

There’s the old story about the blond who created quite a ruckus - her seat was in the back but insisted she had to ride in the front so she would be on time for an important meeting. Captain assured her he would make sure the rear landing gear touched down first so she would be on the ground quicker if she sat in the back.

I have no idea. All the things you mention involve money. But, even was I was a poverty-stricken kid, I could never even entertain the notion of going Greyhound. It just sucked too much. Crap, I'd take an Amtrak that's four hours late before I'd take a freakin' motor coach cross-country.

You have me LOL. You almost describe how I feel flying commercial.

“PLUS you have to go through all the TSA crap.” How is Allegiant different?

ChocChipCookie's reference was to how low Allegiant's fares were/are at some points as to whether they were low enough to warrant traveling and dealing with the whole TSA, airline crap.

Allegiant has had $9 fares each way in the MT to LAX route (of course that was the pretax amount and yes, that was $9 each way...if you were lucky enough to get them). Round trip would be just under $50 with all the taxes. How much is a tank of gas for your car? How far will that get you? How much is it for you to go out for dinner?

The question was, Are Allegiant's fare low enough to endure the process? Hmmmmmmm.

Here’s a story about wearing nicer clothes for flying way back when. My husband’s dad worked for Continental Airlines and his family lived on Guam. When they flew to the states, they all had to get dressed up in suits! If you know much about the weather in Guam and Hawaii, you can imagine how miserable that was, but the airlines insisted that their employees dress to the nines to give the impression that the flight was full of prosperous businessmen and their families.

I have a friend who is a flight attendant for United and they have a dress code for their employees who are flying but not on duty.

A little story about flying home on US Airways last month cross-country from the West coast. Everyone was on the plane and the captain says we are delayed for takeoff because the maintenance crew needed to make some adjustments. Well, soon a couple guy come on-board and asked some people to move away from one of the emergency exit windows. They did and then the guys proceeded to yank to window out. They said they had to re-seat it, as was not seated correctly. Something about a sensor. They had a heck of a time re-seating it, but finally jammed it in there.

After we took off, the air leaks around that window were so loud they gave me a headache and I was on the opposite side of the plane. I had to finally ask for some medicine.

The people all around that window were moved up to business class, because the noise was definitely unbearable.

I told the purser after we finally landed that they needed to get a new maintenance crew that knew what they were doing, to look at that window again and fix it right this time. He agreed.

Why aren't they up front with how much they want to charge for a seat?

You know the answer to that one. They want to show up as the cheapest in a search engine like Travelocity.

BTW, if customers are outraged enough and express it, airlines will back off new charges. A few years back USAir started charging for water. They dropped it in a week or so.

The exact reason for the post. People get treated poorly, don't do anything about it and wonder why things get worse.

It wouldn't take that much to bring the airline industry down to its knees. Maybe 2 to 3 days of people doing a complete boycott on flying and many of these carriers would be in the red for the entire year.

How do these executives and board members look at themselves in the mirror every morning after treating people like this? American Airlines' Bob Crandell and his penny pinching brought this on. Believe it or not, this philosophy all started with cutting olives out of meals to improve the bottom line.
