> This is a chat I just had with Allegiant Air. They showed that I had seat 32E but on their online seat assignment chart only shows 30 rows. In order to have any baggage, I had to pay $30. The thing about the charge was they didn't put that in until the very last step in booking confirmation. Why don't they just put their damn fares at they want to charge rather than screwing with us. Below is my chat.
Please wait, an agent will be with you shortly. Your chat session has started..
Cheryl: Thank you for contacting Allegiant Travel. My name is Cheryl. Thank you for your patience, as I may be assisting other customers.
How may I assist you today?
me: hi
> me: i have an unassigned seat, can i do online checkin [This is a recent change by Allegiant]
Cheryl: Thank you. We offer an advance check in option online. This can be done from the Check In tab. It can only be completed within 24 hours of travel. If your seat was not assigned in advance, a seat will be assigned to you at random for free. Please make sure to enter the name exactly as it appears on your itinerary. To avoid any issues, I suggest that you use capital letters. If you are unable to print out your boarding pass, please check in at the ticket counter two hours prior to your flight time.
> me: it says i have seat 32e...it only has 30 rows
Cheryl: That is your seat assignment . They are booked by the airport agents. Yes there are enough rows.
> me: so if that seat sucks as much as it does, you are now expecting me to pay for an upgrade????????
Cheryl: If you want to change the seating yes there is a fee.
> me: i already feel like i have been yanked by you guys charging me for carry-on baggage. are you guys trying to piss people off to no end?
Cheryl: You do not have to change the seat .
> me: that seat really sucks....i already don't like dealing with the whole TSA crap and tend to avoid flying because of that. could you forward this off to your superior(s). i know the people i am going up to work for were pissed to hear that there is a mandatory charge for carry-on.
Cheryl: Yes I will forward your concern.lIs there anything else I can help you with today?
> me: no...just know that this has me pissed...
Cheryl: Thank you for contacting Allegiant Travel. Have a great day.
Just say no to the TSA
It’s such a tough call with Allegiant. Some of their fares are unbelievably low but they nail you with seat and luggage fees, PLUS you have to go through all the TSA crap. Not sure that it’s worth it.
Everybody charges for checked bags, now except Southwest (2 free), or Jet Blue, (1st bag). If you have no assigned seat, or don’t like your seat, wait until you get to the airport, (early). Then, check in again at the kiosk. If there are any better seats available, select the seat you like. I have seen several airlines, Delta, Untied, US Air, that have unsold extra cost ‘economy plus’ type seats, that they give out for free right before check in. You can only get them at the airport kiosk right before the flight, and it helps if you are a member of their frequent flyer plan. It costs nothing to sign up for their plans, though, you can do it online now.
“PLUS you have to go through all the TSA crap.”
How is Allegiant different?
I remember flying in the 60s...it was awesome and expensive.
Now it’s like the city bus.
Are you sure you didn’t accidentally contact the new Obama Health Care Maneuvers Center? ;)
But it does look like you had to deal with Eliza as a travel assistant.
Thanks on the seatguru. I don't care that much about which seat as long as it isn't past 20 or so.
I just checked for fun — Allegiant flies 2 variants of the MD-80. The MD-87 variant starts at seat 11 and ends at 34: http://www.seatguru.com/airlines/Allegiant_Air/Allegiant_Air_MD-87.php
It wouldn’t have killed them to tell you that.
Have buses become this bad?
>>Just say no to the TSA<<
So, you will let the government tell you that you no longer can fly?
Thanks.
More just pissed about the principle of getting yanked. Per a previous post, I don't like the seating past row 20 or so. Seating really sucks.
And everyone wore nice clothes.
I have flown Allegiant a bunch of times. They are just like to exact a charge for everything. At what point is enough. It is getting to the point where maybe it is time to fly charter. At least the charters are upfront and treat their fares nicely.
Can I open it? Heck, I can install it.
Look for me surfing the door down the runway if there's a problem.
Do love the 737.

So pay for a better seat.
If you want to pay cattle car prices, expect a cattle car ride. If you want first class service, get out you gold American Express card.
Like you, I usually try and grab one of the emergency exits.
