Country singer Randy Travis was charged with driving while intoxicated and threatening law officers after he crashed his Pontiac Trans Am and was found naked and combative at the scene, Texas officials said.
The accident was reported Tuesday night, and Travis walked out of jail Wednesday morning wearing scrubs, no shoes and a University of Texas baseball cap. It was the second Texas arrest this year for Travis, who was cited in February for public intoxication.
A Pontiac Trans Am registered to the 53-year-old singer had veered off a roadway near Tioga, a town about 60 miles north of Dallas where the entertainer lives, and struck several barricades in a construction zone, said Tom Vinger, spokesman for the Texas Department of Public Safety.
Vinger said Travis made threats against DPS troopers and was not wearing clothes at the time of his arrest. The singer refused sobriety tests so a blood specimen was taken, he said.
"Travis had a strong odor of alcoholic beverage on his breath and several signs of intoxication," according to a statement from the Grayson County Sheriff's Office. "While Travis was being transported, Travis made threats to shoot and kill the troopers working the case."
Grayson County District Attorney Joe Brown said his office will review the DPS report of the arrest.
A Travis representative said there would be no immediate comment on the arrest.
Travis, whose suffered facial bruises in the crash, was released on $21,500 bond Wednesday morning from the jail in Sherman, Vinger said. Blood-test results are pending.
In February, Travis was charged with public intoxication after being spotted in a vehicle parked in front of a church in Sanger, about 20 miles from Tioga.
He also has been involved in messy court proceedings with his ex-wife.

On a more serious note, events also included a single-car collision and an alleged threat to shoot and kill his arresting officers, which resulted in Travis being held on a charge of retaliation, a third-degree felony that carries with it up to 10 years behind bars and a $10,000 fine.
Before Travis’ arrest Tuesday night, a convenience store clerk had dialed 911 to report a naked man — a regular customer who regularly wore clothes, according to the Dallas-Forth Worth NBC affiliate — who’d come in seeking cigarettes, then left in frustration when queried about how he would pay for them.
Cut to another 911 call to the Grayson County sheriff’s office a little after 11 p.m. CDT, describing a man lying by the side of a road. Troopers who responded found a Pontiac Trans Am that had been driven off the road and into some construction barricades, as well as 53-year-old Travis, the registered owner of the car, naked, bruised and smelling of alcohol.
The alleged threats to “shoot and kill the officers working the case” came after the DWI arrest, while the singer was being transported, the sheriff’s office said in a statement. Additionally, Travis refused to take a blood-alcohol breath test, so blood was drawn later at the hospital.
Travis’ rep had no immediate comment for the Associated Press. The country star was released on $21,500 bail Wednesday morning and was photographed heading for his ride in light blue scrubs, bare feet and a University of Texas ball cap.

He’s definitely battling addiction. The whole naked thing makes me wonder if he’s battling mental illness, too.

I is not the end of the world. He could simply get sober,
get a far better life, continue to entertain his fans.
Several top entertainers have over 20 years sober.
When you play a Randy Travis record backwards you get your car back, your clothes back and your sobriety back.
I’m sad to read this; hope Randy can just stop and smell the roses; get straightened out, get some help with the alcohol situation.

Mr Travis is/was scheduled to perform in Tampa at a nonpartisan concert during the RNC Nominating Convention. Now there may be a need for a fill-in. Who will that be, I wonder?
