The Mayo Clinic said Monday that U.S. Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. (D-Ill.) has been diagnosed with bipolar disorder and is under treatment there for the condition.

Jackson has been hospitalized at the Rochester, Minn., center and absent from Congress since June 10.

He’s been suffering from massive depression and gastrointestinal issues, a likely complication from a risky weight-loss surgery known as a “duodenal switch.”

Idiot probably has been skipping his vitamins which will cause all sorts of negative crap to his brain if he was already predisposed (he was a dim) to mental issues...

The only bipolar disorder he had is whether to bribe Blago for Obama’s Senate seat, or for the office of Mayor.

Bi-polar disorder: “Yeah, Doc, the coke is getting me up and the valium is getting me down. Oh, all those investigators following me around is getting me kind of down too. Can you give me anything for this?”

Bi-Polar 1 is the monster. The vast majority of people with this disease have Bi-Polar 2 which is very well controlled with the proper drug and a psychologist that is competent.
For this to become public knowledge he is finished with politics and will be deemed disabled for the rest of his life. I feel sorry for anyone who suffers from diseases of the brain. It wasn’t long ago when we considered them either lazy or stupid. This in my opinion has nothing to do with homosexuals until I see proof of a gene abnormality that causes this attitude.

I realize that lots of people have had what they consider to be successful weight loss surgery; but most I’ve known haven’t had a cakewalk of it. - Childhood friend always had a “weight problem”, then early on had a gastric bypass. Had one health problem related to the surgery the rest of her life. To make matters worse, she only got fatter after the surgery until grossly obese. (Husband had kicked her and their two kids to the curb pretty early on, too.) She passed away a few years ago. - Then a 68 yr. old classmate of my husband’s had a gastric bypass, got a very serious infection that shut down her system; she spent 8 weeks in hospital and almost died - said at the time she regretted it. Now, though, she’s “losing weight” - or was at least; but serious business.

I think he’s going bye-bye, some day soon, if they can get him out of that rehab clinic hideaway. Betcha the US Taxpayers are paying the hefty tab for all the ‘perks’ he’s ‘entitled’ to, while there.

Thanks. I teach a 12-week course through NAMI to families who have loved ones diagnosed with mental illness (I have a son who was originally thought to be BiPolar but later diagnosed with Schizoaffective disorder). It's nothing to laugh about, take my word for it. It's a very real biological disease that affects people, often in the prime of their lives.

The fact that society feels it's still "ok" to make light of people with these illnesses is one of the things that makes dealing with it so much more difficult than many other illnesses where empathy is the order of the day.

As much as I despise Jackson's politics, I would not wish BiPolar (or any mental illness) on anyone.

By the way, the next class I'm teaching, beginning this September, is for veterans' families with loved ones diagnosed with mental illness. We're teaming with the local VA to teach the course.

I read where he was diagnosed with a syndrome called FOP. Fear of Prison....cause they have caught his ass red handed.

Strange how things appear without Holder blocking Justice. Meanwhile, the Ft. Hood shooting from 2009...........

It is so bizarre. Why isn’t his family or office releasing updates? Why have someone else do it? The other thing are the changing stories, and the supposed leaks, including about supposed alcoholism. Makes me thing it is all lies.

Blaming it weight loss surgery.

He was portly but not fat enough to require that surgery. Should’ve got a treadmill Jesse!

You can bet the patient authorized release of the limited information by Mayo. Under HIPAA, Mayo would be subject to HUGE penalties for releasing ANY information whatsoever, including even that he is a patient there.

His family doesn’t have the legal authority to release HIS records or any of his health information unless he granted someone (father/mother/wife) power of attorney, which seems unlikely.

JJJr probably assumes, correctly, that a statement by Mayo has ‘gravitas’ vs. any statement from him or the Jackson family.
