Word For The Day, August 21, 2012
In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".
velleity [vuh-LEE-i-tee]
-n
1. Volition in its weakest form.
2. A mere wish, unaccompanied by an effort to obtain it.
[161020; < Neo-Latin velleitās, equivalent to Latin velle to be willing + -itās -ity]
I don’t know why anyone would want their newborn near any politician. ;-)
well me either, it’s kind of creepy.
but hey, i am rampaging around on the Akin thread making friends and endearing myself to people. Where’s HD?
As a pragmatist, i just want to slap idealists silly. that is the bottom line on the Akin apologists and the Hoefling/goode voters.
I want to win and control the House/Senate and White House. Akins shot himself in the foot. A fool. I am ready to move on.
On a brighter note (RME) I am headed to Ithaca, City of Evil, for lunch today. My friend moved away eons ago. Her husband died recently and she is back visiting her family. They moved to Ithaca after she left. Cannot wait to see her. Her daughter and mine were friends, still are via FB. Her son was friends with my son. Sleepovers galore. I am looking forward to it, just hope it’s not too melancholy. I hope I brighten her day.
We had the dedication for our new office building this morning. Cong. Tim Murphy was here for about 10 minutes. Sen. Toomey sent a proxy. I moved in yesterday. No more offices with doors, everyone is in cubicles. At least I have a bit of a window.
We moved some stuff from my mom’s house yesterday. I have a lazy boy and a love seat for my Forman’s basement now.
Getting the riding lawn mower today.
Tomorrow is another morning.
shopping at mom’s is always fun : ) is she doing oK?
We saw it a few weeks ago - we knew most of the info already but our future son in law didn’t.....I think he was a bit stunned.
i want to go not even so much to find out anything new, but more to just see the reaction of the audience, especially in light of Truthy’s experience in blue state NJ.
I watched your Stillers this weekend - did you see “my” Baron Batch make that really great (although it looked almost staged it was so unreal) block so your “flipper” could make a TD? Seriously, that entire run looked staged - Baron blocked two guys, looked like he only touched one, and both fell down like dominos...... But glad to see Baron back playing - hope he makes the team.
She is getting around just fine now, you’d never know she had her knee replaced. I think the doctor scolded her for not doing her exercises.
We have a buyer for the house, hopefully we’ll be all done in a week or so. Extra repairs and stuff are not happy times for my mom, but she’s taking it in stride a little bit.
We went to put the T-bird in a storage unit 2 weeks ago and the thing stopped and wouldn’t re-start right at the gate. 2 weeks and $1200 later we finally got it in.
We’re pretty thin at back, so I think he’ll make it. I wasn’t paying super close attention to everything, but that was a nice play all around. Blocking well is always appreciated here.
glad to hear that overall it’s going ok.
What bothers me is that there are ONLY 100 senators in the Senate and Akin is hardly one of the 100 smartest men in the country.
Well it was an incredible run by your guy but honestly, the entire thing was so unreal it looked staged - guys falling with no apparent reason - then that idiotic back flip as he crossed into the end zone. I recall that show off, adrian peterson doing that when he played for ou and broke his collar bone......I don’t usually laugh when someone gets hurt but he deserved it for showboating like that
Chuck Noll would not approve. I remember a preseason game way back when and some rookie did the “Nestea plunge” into the end zone.
I never saw him again.
Not so hot today-it is getting toward the time of the year whern there is a subtle change in the look of the clouds in the early evening, and (at least out here in the hinterlands) the scent of the vegetation that means Fall is not too many weeks away...
The Obama minions’ velleity
Is simply more of the same-
But if there is work required
That ends their “gimme” game
If they want goods and services
From cash to government cheese
They could always worship Putin
And become dependent by degrees
When they have to work or else
It certainly won’t look nice-
When you drink socialist koolaid
There’s always a steep price
I’m convinced that Akin shot himself in the foot, reloaded and shot himself in the other foot-and where did he get his information on female biology-from the Taliban? Imams who preach sharia? He needs to just shut up, go away and let someone with a brain run for senate.
