You really don't "lose" your license under their circumstances. They have not need to register at this time.

I "lose" my license if I don't register every three years and send the state some money. If I wasn't going to work, I would simply not register.

Bubba was a different case. He opted to not practice for 5 years in return for a "you can't sue me for my disgusting behavior" deal.

You make this scenario, sound very vanilla. Michelle 'gave up' her license per a mandate. It was her 'best choice' given her 'options'.

(In many cases; as you know; the 'license' is given up, in order to avoid having the person held legally accountable and having their license taken away for - behaviors, illegal or inappropriate to professional, legal standards.)

No one is 'speaking to' the 'why' of Michelle's decision; but hers was a choice; albeit; one that avoided, apparently; legal censorship - and public embarrassment. Obama gave his up; a few years later; and perhaps for same reasons; of 'choice'; given issues.

Some speculate; that Obama lied on personal information - and that certainly, is reasonable; given his 'MIA' past and Connecticut issued, Social Security number. As well; could have been those real estate deals with convicted profiteer, Tony Rezko. . who is still in jail as of this writing.

Whatever; the 'story' that the Obama's thought it better to 'give up' their licenses, while he sought public office ET AL'; is ludicrous and as false, as almost everything else; they disclose per their past - and future - motivations.
