GoDaddy's DNS Servers Go Down, Taking Thousands of Sites With It (Oh da Hughmanatee of it all!)
Yahoo! News ^ | 9/10/12 | Christina Warren | Mashable

BREAKING: GoDaddy, the world's largest domain registrar and one of the biggest web hosts, is experiencing major downtime.

The main GoDaddy.com domain is unreachable and websites hosted by GoDaddy are also down. The more problematic part is that any domain registered with GoDaddy that uses its nameservers and DNS records are also down. That means that even if you host your site elsewhere, using GoDaddy for DNS means it is inaccessible.

Free Republic? What's that? Is it where you get 'FREE' stuff from Obama's stash?

Yep. All my sites went dark.

Going to lunch and then to take a nap.

Life happens and they’ll get them back up.

Last time they had to rebuild two of my sites. Went faster than if had to do it and they threw in some extras.

Luv GoDaddy ....

People flip about this stuff but the only ones affected “Really” are the ones with shopping carts.

For them every minute isn’t just pain but potentially lost opportunities in the future customers.

I feel for them.

"The phones are out, shouldn't we call someone?"

I'm in IT. Les was a genius, in comparison to some who I've worked with.

A year or so ago, our office phones were through Verizon, as were all of our cell phones. Verizon had a major outage, knocked everything offline. (turned out some idiot cut an underground fiber line, took down most everything that was local to the cut)

The Fool Who Is Our CIO couldn't understand why we couldn't just pick up a phone and call for help. And why it was taking so #@%#@%# long to fix. We wound up wandering down to the local Verizon store, they were as much in the dark as us. Everything was fixed by the end of the day, but there was a lot of needless pain and drama associated with the outage.

We just worked through setting up a new plan, changing carriers, putting in backups, etc etc. This issue came up (of course). The Fool Who Is Our CIO, still doesn't really understand what happened, why we couldn't make calls, and why it took so long to get updates / get the problem fixed. VP of the company we're going with for a replacement approached me offline (I've worked with him for a good while)....said "Is this guy for real, or is he just pulling my chain, here?"

Sadly, I had to admit that, yes, the Fool Who Is Our CIO, was serious.

HA! I'll suggest that next time.

Won't fix a thing, but will get him out of my hair for a few hours while he goes home, gets the phone, takes a nap, watches TV, has a snack, and eventually (maybe) wanders back into work. I might even have enough time to fix the problem.

"Wait, your home isn't an IP phone? ohhhhhh.... well, thanks for trying, it was a big help (smirk)"
