CHICAGO (CBS) — Gangbangers in Chicago: What makes them tick, what are they thinking?

CBS 2’s Walter Jacobson sat down with gang members in Chicago’s troubled Englewood neighborhood to try to find some answers.

I didn't grow up in Beverly Hills either, and yet I don't steal and kill. I wonder if the reporter expected sympathy with their "plight" from the readers. It looks like people are finally tired of the lame excuses.

You can draw a six-mile circle now around the center of Chicago, and basically tell all outsiders not to venture near that area for fear of death. The fact that no political figures want to do anything about this....says a great deal about life in Chicago.

I'm reminded of the stories I used to hear when I was young about Italians growing up in NYC (usually told by Italian-American entertainers) that you either became a priest or a hoodlum. As I got older I realized what a load of baloney it was as very few Italian-Americans made it into the mob or the priesthood compared to the millions who did neither. 99% of people of Italian extraction live fruitful, happy lives by working hard and obeying the law. (no, I'm not Italian-American)

It's no different for young Black Americans. The road to success is open to them as well as any other group of Americans. Attitude counts for everything. Whether you're white, black, hispanic, American Indian, Irish, Polish, WASP, if you have the right attitude, you can succeed. If you have a bad attitude, you blame everybody else for your failures and choose lives that are frequently criminal and worthless to society.

The sentiments expressed by those Chicago gangmembers is the same in every major and medium city in the US.

There are over 1.2 million documented gangmembers in the US. That’s the guys who would admit they were in a gang or there were multiple sources of evidence to confirm that they were in a gang. There are untold tens of thousands more who are not documented.

Nearly all exist because of the war on drugs.

When the economic collapse happens, and there is no more
EBT and no more emergency services, these are the guys who will be in charge of the urban areas. Pray no one organizes them. Although they may not project much power beyond the city limits, you are dead meat if you are caught in the city and you aren’t of the correct “ethnic” group.

A few changes to the specifics is all that's needed. No need to wait for the gov to put them up either.
