Another weekend vanity. :)
What will you be drinking election night? Will it vary depending on the outcome?
I ordered a few fine bottles of Scotch from Master of Malt last spring. Because I got the very last bottle produced from this select cask, one of my neighbor friends in our little enclave here decided that, win or lose, we would open and consume this rare and highly rated cask strength Islay Single Malt called Berrys Own Selection; an unchillfiltered batch made by Caol Ila Distillery in Port Askaig in 1980. It was drawn in 2011 from Cask #4938 and bottled by Berry Brothers & Rudd, a London firm started in 1698, who apparently won the Whiskey Magazine Icons of Whiskey Independent Bottler of the Year Award two years ago when they bottled up this treasure.
The description on the bottle, besides some history, is enticing: This expression gives subtle yellow fruit skin aromas with outcrops of linseed and polished leather, Balkan Sobranie tobacco and brine. The palate is unctuous, again fruity, (apple crumble), and manifests a peaty, oaky structure. A fine old Caol Ila, this finishes with a savoury, briny appeal.
Ummm, ummm, ummm.
Whether to mourn the death or celebrate the possible resuscitation of our nation, this nectar should be appropriate for a night whose memory is not likely to fade in whatever time we have left.
Anyone else making any plans, libatious or otherwise, for the grand evening?
An Americano chasing a Barbary Coast.
If Obama wins:
a whole lotta moonshine
If Obama loses:
The sweet, sweet tears of the local SIEU, in a crystal glass lined with 24K goldplate, wearing a balloon giraffe of Romney happiness on my head, dancing outside the hotel balcony where I’ll be, in my ad-hoc Romney-themed underwear.
I drink the same thing I drink any other night......whatever I feel like drinking. Usually beer.
Maybe a nice Chianti.....
I’m going to bite the Bulleit.
Any wine that goes well with a roasted beet and goat cheese salad. Picked a few beets from the garden this afternoon, roasted them up, and combined them with some chevre. Outstanding! I’ll duplicate the dish on election night and serve it with an Italian red or a California cab. That way, without regard to the result, at least I will be happy with our food and drink.
I see we share a taste in Mexican beer.
With some fava beans?
A goblet of fine Zenfendel Port.
Excellent choice. One of my faves.
Clint was also seen in the Andy Griffith show, as a silent boy who would offer people a bite of his sandwich. I believe the Sheriff called him by (his character's) name, but I forget what it was.
Clint appeared in brother Ron's Apollo 13 and in the Hanks/Howard HBO miniseries From the Earth to the Moon as a mission control specialist. Without Googling I'm not able to say who, or even if the same real mission contol spec in both pieces.
I usually open a couple bottles of Dom Perignon each New Year's Eve. This year, I will purchase the bottles early and will consume them the evening of November 7th in the very likely event that favorable results occur.
In the off-chance that the night is a disaster, Johnny Walker, will have to console me. But I'm thinking he'll have to stay on the shelf for a while longer.
I am having White Russians....and Arturo Fuente “Its a Boy”
Cigar.....I’m Poor.
If Romney wins I have about 10 packs of Fire Crackers to whoop it up!!!
Then I’m going to my Knees in Thanksgiving.
Delaforce Curious and Ancient Porto.
E Supimpa!
Thats Ron Howards Brother...I knew it immediatly.
Thunderbird wine or Schlitz Malt Liquor if Obama takes it. If Romney wins, Postum would seem more appropriate.
Only if you can name the movie he was in with Michael Keaton, Shelly Long and Fonzie (Henry Winkler)....
I bow to your awesome geekiness...
